Advice Needed - Should I Do a 10K Race?

I've ran 10K once and run 6 miles probably about 5+ times in the past year, all on a treadmill.  There's a slight bit of walking involved, but I can get through it without a problem.  I know I can handle the distance, but I have 2 concerns:

1) I have never run a race before.  Ever.  So is 10K too long of a race to jump right into the racing world?  Like, are there things I should know about racing first and just start out easy with like a 5K or something?

2) As I said, I run on a treadmill, so I am not so good with elevation.  Will the hills absolutely kick my backside?  I checked out the course this weekend, and its not too hilly, but there are a couple of spots that could be problematic.

Any advice from experienced racers would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Today's workout:  Ran / Walked 6.06 miles in 62:00 (wanted to do a full 10K as a practice run, but the treadmill shut down).  Ran 12:15 intervals.

Workout Date:

I am by no means an experienced racer, but I did a couple. If you can run 6 miles, then definitely go for the the 10K. About the hills, you can always practice elevation on the treadmill, but the best would be practicing the actual course.

The 10K I ran in last October was not my first race by any means but I definitely did not run in my many races prior to that, and I was completely fine! I think you can definitely do it!!!  Running in a race is definitely different than going out for a run. I ran in a 5 mile race back in June and I honestly did not even train for it and I was fine!  I was so excited to be running in it, that the excitement helped me remain motivated! I will say running outside is different than running inside so you may want to practice running outside a few times before, but if not, you will still do great!!!
