trampoline AND trapeze :-)

My friend convinced me to take a trampoline class before my trapeze class.  I used to be a gymnast, so I definitely know how to bounce around, so I figured what the heck.  It was a cool thing to do.  It was good to get some actual instruction on what to do on a trampoline, and not, ya know, just bounce around.  I did back drops which I'd always been scared to do, and it turns out they're super fun :-) I got spotted on some back tucks which I'd always sucked at, but the spotting definitely helped.  Not sure if its worth doing again - not sure the cost justifies the amount of trampoline time I got (1 hour class, I got 3 turns), but I'll definitely keep it in mind.

Trapeze was good.  I'm at a point now where I know all the basic tricks, but in order to do more advanced stuff, I have to be able to do a Swing.  No, this is not just holding on to the bar and going with the flow.  In a Swing there are certain points in the arc where you drive your heels back, other times when you have to hold a hollow body position, and other times when you push down on the bar and kind of drive your body upwards (called a "7").  Its hard to do.  I worked on it last week and tonight, and it is getting better, but its going to be awhile before I learn new skills.  I'm told you can do trapeze forever and still not get a perfect Swing.  Frankly, as long as its good enough to do cool tricks, I'll be happy. :-)

And because I feel withdrawal without saying this:  Trampoline class - 60 minutes, but probably only 15 minutes of activity or so.  Trapeze class - 120 minutes and in between turns I sat in a pike the ENTIRE time because my legs don't want to stay straight and together. So it all counts. Not that any of it counts anymore.  Hmmm :-/

What a fun day! I too used to be a gymnast and have been meaning to do a tramp class. Have you seen any soft tumbling classes anywhere? I'd love to tumble again but my old lady joints are unlikely to stand up to it - would love a soft tumbling class though...

I have to be honest, and I feel a bit ignorant, but I have never heard of a soft tumbling class.  What is involved with it? What tumbling is done that is different from regular classes?  I'm very intrigued!!

As for the old lady joints - I feel your pain - and that is a lot of the reason why I love trapeze.  I still get to flip around and do really cool things, but there is zero impact.  You land in a giant net - no pressure to stick landings :-) I've had back problems most of my life, and gymnastics obviously didn't help that, but trapeze has never once bothered my back.  Once you're body's recovered from the whole giving birth thing (I have no clue how long that takes, and I give you all the credit in the world for doing it) you should give trapeze if you have a location near you!!
