I need to find some motivation

I am just not losing the weight I want to lose.  The MMM isn't doing it for me, not that it should, but it isn't.  It has just been a matter of logging time and there is no payoff; it is actually annoying because I am basically logging it in two places so there is just more typing.  I don't think I can lose weight merely by exercising because I have to change my bad habits.  I have to find some motivation within myself but that is easier said than done, especially when my life feels beyond my control of late.  Old bad habits are comforting, unfortunately.  This morning I walked for the first time in a while and it felt more difficult than ever before.  It took me 54 minutes to do my 4 miles.

Wait. You walk FOUR miles in under an hour. And you aren't feeling motivated?! Holy cow, that is fast! Are you sure you aren't jogging?

Have you thought about doing a yoga retreat or otherwise setting aside some time that is designated just and only for taking care of yourself (even just by getting a massage or something and saying "this is just for me and I deserve it")?  Sometimes when I feel unmotivated and down what I really need is to just give myself the space to be quiet, do some healing and resting, and get back in touch with myself and then kickstarting a few days later is much easier.

4 miles in 54 minutes is nothing to be sad about!! As for motivation, Its all about babysteps. You dont have to cut out everything, or workout 23 hours a day, its about finding balance that you can keep up with over a lifetime.  For me, instead of rewarding myself for weight lost, I used to reward myself for steps taken towards that goal. For instance: if i got up and went to workout 3 days a week before work for a month, I'd reward myself with a new top, or workout pants.  Maybe pick a few classes at the gym you've never tried and make it a goal to try them twice within the next few weeks. Or invite a few good friends for a long walk/chat. Little things like that add up, and make the process alot more fun too. You CAN do this.

Instead of focusing and what foods you should NOT eat - you should make it a point to add in healthy foods.  Try a new fruit or veggie a day - let that be your treat!

You are right - if you want to lose weight, exercise will not do it.  Diet is a majority of the equation.

So, remember add in HEALTHY, WHOLE foods and crowd out the unhealthy ones.....

Also, I'm with @joesgirl - a retreat or a weekend/week away is a great way to kick off a healthier lifestyle and get inspired and motivated!

DON'T GIVE UP

@liz - I can testify that she is walking and not running. Crazy, right??

vajardin, I would sooo go on a weekend getaway with you! Maybe at wintergreen where we can hike and cook our own meals?

A yoga retreat or weekend getaway sound great.  I think, as far as food is concerned, that I choose healthy most of the time.  My problem is more with portion control.  I am going to work on getting more focused.
