First New Boot Camp: I Am On The Fence
In an attempt to recapture the challenge and fun I had at DC Adventure Bootcamp without the 40 minute early morning commute, I signed up for one of Achieve-Fitness' boot camps closer to my home.
Yesterday was my first day, and while I will continue at least through the end of July, I am on the fence about it. The class is super small -- just three other women -- which sounds good in theory (lots of personal time with the trainer), but in reality it wasn't very challenging because our instructor didn't teach differentially. In other words, we worked out at the lowest common denominator, which was pretty low.
During one running exercise (for 10 minutes) we "ran" single file and occasionally the woman at the end of the line would sprint to the front. Our leader actually told us to set a pace that everyone could run comfortably at and multiple times told us to slow down -- instead of challenging us to go faster and try to keep up with each other. We "ran" so slow that I am sure I could have walked faster. When she told us to sprint the last lap it felt so good to stretch my legs that I took off and finished my lap and cool down lap just as the last woman was finishing her jogging lap.
I am hopeful that the instructor will adjust and give us more challenging modifications for the moves, because I thoroughly enjoy exercising outside and I love the idea of boot camp -- being held accountable and pushed. But if it doesn't get better, maybe it is time to try crossfit? There is a crossfit gym literally across the street from me, but it starts later (at 6:30 am instead of 6 am) and is really intimidating.

How disappointing to go to a boot camp and not be challenged. I hope it gets better for you.
