Oddball Exercises

I got a new set of resistance bands over the weekend so I felt compelled to use them in a set of bench press-like exercises called TNT presses. Didn't know why they called them that until I did them, and they're literally dynamite for everything from the arm to the lower back. My training partner and I did a countdown of 5-4-3-2-1 at 85# (bar + hanging 20# each side) and then a set to failure (8 for me, 3 for him) at 115# (25# each side + hanging 10#). So as you can probably guess, the TNT involves hanging weight plates from the bar with the bands. Lots of instability, plenty of stabilizer muscle activation, and tons of fun.

In addition to the floor TNT, I also tried an escalating set of deadlifts today. Basically, you start with a weight that's roughly 20-25% your 1RM and do 5 reps, adding an additional 15-20% of 1RM each rep. Each rep should be done within at most 30 seconds of the last. The last rep is your 1RM. Ridiculous. I did 75, 125, 175, 225, 275. My friend did 45, 85, 125, 165, 205.

Great day filled with new and strange exercises, lots of energy and much fun had along the way. =]
