yes yes yes!!!

- resting dancer
I danced Bharatanatyam on stage and I DIDN'T F UP ROYALLY! YESSSSS! That's all I wanted, was to not fall on my face. I may not have been as graceful as when i'm practicing and relaxed, pity. And when your limbs are shaking with nerves it's difficult to keep the form crisp and clean. and when you psych yourself out thinking "oh god oh god that really hard move that i mess up all the time is coming up next i hope i make it" you might not go full out into it cause you're holding back. this is life. performing is weird like that.
SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO SPINDIG AND EIS4EMILY for joining me in the evils of times square on a saturday night (on kentucky derby day no less) to watch me bumble around on stage in a sari! big hugs!!
The whole ritual of rehearsing 2 billion times, pleating ironing pinning a sari, wardrobing with bells and hairpieces and flowers and bhindis and bangles and red paint for fingertips and toe tips (haha we're so ghetto and used red sharpie and expo dry erase makers) and being nervous and wearing my mala beads for good luck and all of that...it really is nervewrackingly fun! all this work...and it's OVER in an hour or 2. I might have post partum dance depression now! now what?? please keep me dancing, I need it! I could imagine if I trained this hard every month, I'd be amazing, soon!
ps- my entire body is exhausted. my feet feel like hell! maybe a reflexology massage today!
Bharatanatyam Namaskaram:
(mantra to shiva, the cosmic dancer)
aangikam bhuvanam yasya
vaachikam sarva vanmayam
aharyam chandra taraadi
tam nama satvikam shivam
****
translation from sanskrit:
Whose bodily movement is the entire universe,
whose speech is the language (of the universe),
whose ornaments are the moon and the stars, Him,
we bow to you, the serene lord Shiva.
