Yoga Requires a Shift in My Thinking
Tonight I took my 3rd Yoga class ever. Quite honestly I did it because I want to log minutes in all categories for the MMM. To me Yoga really doesn't feel like "working out" or "exercise". I feel like its a good thing for the body. I feel like I got a really good stretch (especially enjoyable after yesterday's 6 mile run). I feel pretty darn calm and mellowed out. But i don't feel like I really worked myself. I don't feel like I expended a lot of energy and made my body work hard. There was no intensity. Herein lies the thought shift. I run, kickbox, and do trapeze, and I used to be a gymnast. Clearly I like some level of intensity in my exercise. I have to force myself to accept the fact that you can do something good for your body without working up a giant sweat. I think I could see myself doing Yoga again - but definitely when I need a calming work-out. Like after a bad day at work. Or after a 7 mile run :-)

Keep up with the yoga. Especially since you run, it's great for your joints!

I'm with you. I used to do yoga much more often but found myself craving the adrenaline rush from higher intensity classes. Now I go whenever my body aches too much to do much else and I NEVER regret it!

I agree with you that it's not much of a workout, but like you said, it's really good for your body! I love doing it on Fridays after work...I feel like it ends the week perfectly!! What kind of yoga did you take? Was it Hatha? I like Hatha, but power yoga is a much much better "workout." I also think it depends on the instructor. There are two at my gym, and I definitely like one over the other, but both are good.
