Exercise in Absentia

I began the Million Minute Month challenge from San Francisco, where I was visiting for work.  I managed a modest start, getting in weightlifting workouts most mornings and jog or long walks around town, and I even discovered a hitherto unknown 24 Hour Fitness near Fisherman's Wharf that was much more convenient to my North Beach hostel than the Crunch on Polk Street.  I even got in a hula hoop class while I was out there, but that happened before Tax Day, so it didn't make it into my totals.

Now I'm returned to the land of work-from-home and convenient gymnasia, so I'll hopefully be logging more workouts like this morning's, an hour and a forty five minutes at Crunch (interrupted briefly to walk princessmichelle home so she could head off to work), focusing on chest and shoulders, but also working in some leg presses, dead lifts, and shrugs.

With no explicit workout post requirement, I'm not going to log a separate post for each workout of my last week, but I'll do a quick review here.  While in San Francisco, I decided I would focus excessively on shrugs every day I lifted there in a little experiment in body part overtraining.  While I did manage to get quite sore, it was not debilitating, and I even pushed twenty more pounds on my max.  I did lose two callouses, though; one on each hand.  This week I'm going to be doing the same experiment but with my chest, to see if overtraining a part without overtraining the whole will lead to jump starting progress in that area.

I didn't work out the day I flew back to New York, and yesterday I slept through my normal morning workout while I readjusted to the time change.  princessmichelle and I went to samba class last night, which is always a good and fun workout.
