best way to interval train? and make your own almond milk

Ran this morning: 5 minute warmup then alternated hard/easy in sets of minutes...1-1-2-2-3-3-2-2-1-1, then two minute warm down. short ab workout.

I'm not sure if I'm pushing myself hard enough during the "hard" parts...I think I was at some points but not at others. I'm wondering if I shouldn't do it based on distance rather than time, because I think I would push myself harder and I wouldn't have to rely on a stop watch. thoughts?

followed it up with a green smoothie:

handful of ice

1 c homemade almond milk*

half of a frozen banana

half of a granny smith apple

2 huge fistfuls of spinach

1/2 tbsp chia seeds

1 tsp cinnamon

*To make your own almond milk, soak 1 c almonds in 4 c water for 24 hours. Then, blend for several minutes (the longer you go, the more you milk the almonds...I used a blender but I imagine a food processor would work too if you have one large enough). Pour through a mesh strainer - the last bit can take a while to strain through the remaining almond meal.

I've read you can dehydrate the almond meal but I just keep it as-is and add to baked goods, oatmeal, etc.
