Workout

Very brief workout post

Since I worked out twice yesterday, I didn't feel like I needed to work too hard today, and since I already posted this morning, I don't feel like I need to post a lot now.  :)

This evening I met princessmichelle at the Lafayette Crunch in Manhattan for a pre-concert workout.  Most of my time was spent helping princessmichelle figure out how she could do negative pull ups, but I also got in a few sets of squats and bench press using the pointers I'd learned the night before at Brooklyn Barbell.  On squats I moved up another ten pounds, now just 25 pounds shy of my goal for the year.  I tried to move up another ten pounds after that, and ended up on the ground.  You win some you lose some.

Nice one! I topped my squat PR by five a couple days ago. Out of curiousity, how do you warm up for your lifts, especially your 1RM runs?

I usually don't stretch or do a light warm up unless I'm very stiff, in which case I probably wouldn't be hitting whatever exercise I'm thinking about too hard anyway.  Maybe I'll do one set at around 50% ORM, but typically I'll start in the 75-80% and then add weight incrementally depending on how muscular I'm feeling.  As a rule of thumb, I start 10-20 pounds lower than the highest set I was able to achieve 5 reps, and then proceed upward, doing a couple sets at 5 reps, and then moving into the range where I can't do 5.
