Catch up post: cardio with The Boy
I finally talked The Boy into joining the gym with me. Sorta. He's on a one-month trial to see how he likes it. He has a very physically demanding job and is sick lean without trying (jerk!), so he's never really "needed" a gym or even a workout (jerk!!!). But we haven't had much time to spend together, and I've been fantasizing about holding family meetings on the elliptical, side-by-side, watching the same TV show on mute with closed captioning on. Mm hmmm, I'm totally lame.
Anyway, he finally agreed that the gym might be a way to get in some quality time together and we're giving it a shot. Our first workout together was 40 minutes of cardio. He didn't love it, but I think he enjoyed the company, and even tried to get me to walk home afterwards. Riiiiight, not in this weather, dude.
Workout: 20 minutes elliptical, 20 minutes arc trainer = 40 minutes of happy happy joy joy

Baby steps...I got my "boy" taking classes with me and now he's almost as addicted as I am. No matter how thin you are it's always good to work out...
You should a' walked home though -- you should "reward" his effort :)
Love your family meeting fantasy - adorable!

wait wait wait, make sure you are taking baby steps, and yes, "reward" him please! i hated the gym for months after my now-ex suckered me into joining, and i hated her workouts, and she was completely thoughtless about what i wanted to achieve at the gym. the only thing that saved the gym for me was social workout, no lie.

If you need tips on motivating someone to go to the gym, consult Sassletic. She & Social Workout are the only things that made the gym fun for me. What worked best for me was the pink lipstick, high fives, ass slapping and sauna sessions. Some of those things could work for you. I think the key is to having fun and while seriously sweating, not taking your sweat too seriously. Oh and partner situps and stretching are key.

Hawk, you make a good point. The reality is that I want him to join for me me me, because I need a gym partner and -- in theory -- who better to share my gym with than the person I've been sharing everything else with for 5 years. But baby steps will definitely be key.
vonhottie, partner situps and stretching = almost sexy time. I think you're right on the money with that one. I'm not sure how he'd feel about wearing pink lipstick, but I'll see what I can do ;) I have a feeling he'll go for the "reward" over anything else. I should work out a contract. Muahahaha!

Rewards, mmmm ... good idea. I'm trying to talk Hubby into doing Power 90 with me. Sadly, I'm not sure I will have any energy left over for rewards. ;)
