Workout

Pounding the (rubberized substitute) pavement again.

Run, Evangeline, run!

I got another late start today, so spinning was out, and I decided I'd go running in my basement gym again today. I'd been hearing a lot about the Couch to 5k podcasts, so I decided to give it a whirl. I've been meaning to get back to the running. I used to run quite a bit, and enjoyed it. NotoriousJBG had been running until some tendonitis slowed her down, and I'd been thinking I should get it together again so we could run a 5K together.

I downloaded the podcast, and was a little put off by the music I'd heard so I decided to skip the music for today and just run the intervals as listed on the page. Week One: A five minute warm up, eight 60 second intervals, with 90 second rests, and a five minute cool down. About five intervals in, I wasn't feeling particularly challenged, so I decided to switch to 60 second runs, and 60 second rests. After hitting my eighth interval, I felt like I should still push it a little further, so I ran two more, then added five 90 second runs, and 60 second rests. I was ncie and sweaty by the end of it all, so I felt fairly satisfied that I'd gotten a good workout.

If I'm going to continue, I should probably stick more closely to the program, and just increase my speeds. Or add this routine to a workout day. The whole thing is designed to build my endurance and speed over nine weeks, and I might be setting myself up for a fall. Something to think about, I guess. I also briefly entertained the thought of using this program as my Body feat for the Love Challenge. It would definitely meet the time requirement, but I still think something more relaxing, and therefore loving, would be more appropriate.

I used audacity to mix my own intervals, for example, 60 seconds Daft Punk, 90 seconds Madonna; then I looped it until I had 20 minutes of music, then saved it as .mp3 and loaded it on my iPod.

I used different music for each week and stuck to the C25K program probably because I enjoyed making the mixes so much.

Good luck!

You can start on the second or third week of c25k if you're not finding it challenging enough :)
