Zumba with Eric
Sammy was sick so we got a sub. Young asian man, big smile, adidas warm up pants, tee shirt and microphone. He started with a hugely energetic yell and a slightly violent punching motion as we did a semi-salsa step warmup. I thought dark, racial profiling thoughts: This guy has no latin rhythm. He's mechanical, and overly enthused, and very asian. IN FACT, he proved to be an amazing dancer. Capable of shaking every part of his body. Yes, faster moving and higher energy than a traditional latin vibe, but not bad. Actually, it was barely a zumba class in the sense that half way through he began teaching us a hip hop combo. I nailed some of the moves, and struggled with others. My height and ridiculous warm up pants-with-rod-laver-tennis-sneakers look were not helping. Nor was my bad shoulder, which made sweeping my very straight arms around my head in giant circles, as per gay club style, very painful. But dancing is just so good, in whatever form, and I did dance for moments here and there between the struggle to keep up, and the self consciousness, and I though again about how I should devote SW entirely to dance...
But then later I did pushups and situps and looked around at all the people doing their crunches or odd stretches, an intimate, cozy scene on the mats, while the snowflakes were falling outside, and appreciated that too.
Anyway, now I'm posting so I can get the green check mark. Weird how effective that is.

I love your dance obsession. Maybe we should do a dance challenge next month...AgustaGoop style.
I agree with you that dance is just pure energy from the heart. It makes me smile that you loved to dance. Your ASS SHAKING MOVES were kickass. You learn super quickly. Not too shabby for a tall white boy in a ruffle pirate top. You rock.
