I started to watch this because I've become a fan of Jackie Warner's workouts and was curious how it would compare to Biggest Loser, but I turned it off halfway through. The cast (along with their "reasons" for wanting to get "healthy") was just too unbearable to watch. And this is coming from someone who regularly watches Jersey Shore.

I've come to this realization recently as well... I remember one day about a year ago where I entered the gym sans iPod, just about had a heart attack and almost skipped my workout altogether. But I've gone on a few runs recently without music and it wasn't bad at all. I've always thought that having music makes my workouts go by faster (and sometimes, it still does), but for running in particular, some days it's nicer just to hear my own breath, feet on the pavement and nothing else.

I've heard the 1,000 calorie claim with other workouts and the only explanation I can come up with is that they're basing such a burn on someone who is considerably overweight and probably not in avergae shape. But even that's ridiculous because if you are indeed overweight and out of shape, it's quite unlikely that you would be able to keep up during such an instense workout long enough to burn 1000 calories.
I too have used a heart rate monitor to gauge how hard and how long I need to workout to burn X amount of calories, but the average Joe/Jane isn't usually armed with such information prior to joining these classes. Yes, it's great to get people motivated to try a new workout, but not with faulty promises of extreme calorie burn.
