Oddball Exercises
I got a new set of resistance bands over the weekend so I felt compelled to use them in a set of bench press-like exercises called TNT presses. Didn't know why they called them that until I did them, and they're literally dynamite for everything from the arm to the lower back.

Bringing Up the Weak Links
Incline bench pressing sucks, but that in itself is a reason to do more of it. A test run at the beginning of the week put me at a meager 65# for five, so naturally I did what any cautious, easy-going gym rat would do... I tried to do more. Today, along with the psychological assistance of my trusty spotter/training partner, I squeezed out 95# for three. Twice. A new personal record! =]

On Training Partners and PRs, in Haiku
I figured it was about time to post a little something of what I've been up to. I found a training buddy in one of my good high school friends, who also happens to be in town before he, too, leaves for grad school. He's hardly ever lifted in his life, so I'm having fun teaching him some technique and watching him improve.

Drained
Left myself completely pooped after today's relatively short lifting sesh.
20 deadlifts (135#)
12 hang cleans (55#)
20 front squats (4x5, 85#)
3:30 Tabata push-ups
2:00 Tabata air squats
4x5 bodyweight rows
10 close-grip floor press from pins (45#)
Foam rolling was much needed and done.

Tabata and Hunger
Started off today with Tabata intervals on the Concept2, followed by a few minutes of moderate intensity rowing just to warm up the joints. Nearing the end of the workout, I had to stop early due to hunger. Some days, when you gotta eat, you gotta eat.

Allergies Vs. Fresh Air
I'm back in Northern California for a couple of months since school's out for summer and I don't have a job. It's great because I don't have to deal with slap-you-in-the-face pollution for a while, but May here is the season for pollen.

Back In The Gym.... After The Flu
April is around the time I have to watch out for germs, since my allergies always start kicking in around now and the stress of finals as well. But I got complacent, not keeping my distance around maybe-sick people, staying up late for no reason, not washing my hands with after coming home, etc. So, I got sick.

Under The Weather
Didn't really want to go to the gym today because I was feeling a little sick... bit of a sore throat, runny nose type of thing. I went anyways. 13 reps with perfect form for chin-ups, deadlifts (185#), clean and jerk (85#) and box squats (120#)... then 8 minutes of man-makers (finished 18 reps... with lots of gaspy pauses.... gosh they're hard) with 20# dumbbells.

Tabata Rowing... Among Other Things
Two workouts on Saturday. I was supposed to workout on Friday too, but something came up. I started the morning with some yoga, some bodyweight exercises and stretching, then ate breakfast and headed out to the gym. There, I tried doing Tabata rowing sprints, and they weren't as bad as I had thought.

Food stamps aren't earned by the people using them. If the state issues the food stamps from a state-owned welfare program out of compassion, at least they should be able to control what you can get with them. Bottom line, you get a choice only when you earn it.

If only that extra two sticks of butter's worth of fat was actually two sticks of butter instead of reheated, trans-fatty cooking oil.

Maybe you've put on a bit o' muscle? I wouldn't worry about the scale too much. Muscle by volume is heavier than fat, so even if you build a little muscle and drop a lot of fat, the scale might read the same.

The problem with HFCS isn't so much it's content, but the fact that it's in things it shouldn't be in. As a result, it's easy to end up eating way more sugar than you think. I've seen it in "milk," bread, ketchup, bbq sauce, even in meat! I just choose to opt out of these frankenfoods.

Haha, not to worry, it was completely gym related! Got a little ambitious doing squats and it just got worse from there because I refused to take a little time off. Well, now you know what not to do. =]

Between the plastic foods you write about and "journalists" scaring people away from the WRONG foods, we're doomed.

You wouldn't find me a mile near this stuff. I don't touch anything without the whole egg in it. Or chocolate "defatted." Gimme my damn fat/cholesterol at least! Sad that people think they're actually doing some "good" with a product like this.

Sometimes happens when you overtrain. You don't have to be body sore but your nerves get worn out! Don't lose hope, just take a couple days off from the gym and treat yourself, you'll be able to come back fresh. You shouldn't have to force yourself to exercise. =]
