32 miles of singletrack...
...makes for a great run! If anyone lives here in Colorado, the trail from Kenosha Pass to Breckenridge cannot be beat. It's very run-able and very scenic, and with the right company, makes for a fantastic day. I recently spent 7.3 hours on the trail with my friend Patrick. Well, he's my friend now. Before that, our friendship was based on a 20 minute conversation
Giardiathon
I've had a great summer of running, hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking. The highlight of the summer was a hike on my trip to Costa Rica: my husband and I climbed Costa Rica's tallest peak, Cerro Chirripo. At 12,606 feet, it's lower than many peaks in Colorado, but with a 25 mile roundtrip and 8000 foot vertical gain, it presented a formidable challenge for a day hike.
Workout
MTB + Yoga, ahhh...
Finally, I'm caught up. Did another 10-12 mile mountain bike ride this morning--I'm starting to enjoy mountain biking. Plus, my friend Bonnie seems convinced that cross-training is good for you...she might be on to something, we'll see. I finally made it to yoga class this afternoon, which was great. I want to keep working on my core so that I can improve at hand-balancing poses.
Workout
18.5
18.5 miles, 5600 vertical feet. It took too damn long because my friend was bonking like a mother. Oh well, it was fun, and we saw a cool snake. Afterward, we had sushi by the creek, enjoyed some soaking in the cold water, naps in the sun, and then we went to a Zimbabwean Music Festival. Sunday was Gay Pride, and I volunteered for the festival.

Neurotic runner strikes again...
Because I don't consider ultimate to be a true, hard core workout (I mean, you get to rest in between sprints), I had to squeeze in a run on Friday morning. Plus, I ate an enormous breakfast (a scramble with brie, spinach, sundried tomatoes, roasted garlic, sweet potato home fries and corn tortillas), so I felt it necessary to hit the trail. 60 minutes at Mt. Falcon park, one of my faves.
Workout
Ultimate with Altitude
Excellent ultimate frisbee game today, it started in the pouring rain, and even though the rain stopped, our hair was all standing up from the electricity. I was the only person begging to stop, but sadly, I was playing with a bunch of stupid boys. All survived, no one got struck, so I'm a p*&%E$y.
Workout
Abs and Trail Running
20 minutes of abs in the morning, and a 90 minute trail run in the afternoon. Life is good.
Workout
Girlie MTB
Mountain biking with my friend Bonnie. One of the few times I've mountain biked with a girl, and it was an absolute blast. We followed up our 10 mile ride with some der-licious Vietnamese food.
Workout
Recovery Yoga & Abs
That says it all. 60 minutes-ish of yoga, and 20 minutes of abs workout (from the women's health ab workout posted on this site). I've starting doing abs three times a week, which I think is good. Maybe it will pay off in improved yoga skills.
Workout
Mellow MTB
The husband and I did laps around the Flying J Ranch open space park; approximately 12 miles of shady, rolling hills. A nice recovery workout.

Boulder Hike!
No idea what the mileage or vertical of this hike/run was--forgot my GPS (idiot!).
If you're familiar with Boulder, you'll know these trails: Mesa to Shadow Canyon, summit South Boulder Peak, summit Bear Peak, summit Green Mountain, summit Flagstaff Peak, down the Crown Trail and DONE. 5 hours total running and hiking, my best guess is 16+ miles

Wow. That's pretty awesome. I can no longer over indulge like that because of my allergies, argh! I was lamenting this weekend that I can no longer eat like a frat boy. What a bummer--not sure what happened! How are you?

Rest makes you stronger, I s**t you not. I always have one couch potato day in my week, and it's a treat!

Not to be a naysayer, but my dietician friends warn against detox--they say that flushing your system with water and staying away from the really unhealthy stuff (alcohol, sat fats, etc) will do the trick. Those cleanses can often be hard on the liver and kidneys.

Great post. I totally agree with your comments on the Evil Scale. We have one (Andy's drum scale), and it only causes me anxiety. When I didn't have a scale, I just went by how I felt, which I think is far healthier. That's why you work out anyway, to feel good?
Nice to hear that you're still with the same guy (what's his name--it begins with a K...). I remember you expressing the same sentiments about commitment when I was in NYC. Boys are nice to have around, really, especially when they tell you that you're sexy (which is true).
Cheers!

I'm a big fan of quantity cooking. I usually leave the house around 6:15 or 6:30, and most days I'm not home until 6-7pm, so cooking is about the last thing I want to do. The slaw rocks--it's a fair amount of vegetable chopping, but for the sauce, you just toss everything in the blender. Andy was having food orgasms over that slaw. I think the fried tofu and rice noodles really make it work as a meal, although I'm taking a batch a side dish on our camping trip this weekend. We're pot-lucking tomorrow night, so the slaw is my contribution.

Dude, you're on a kick with that quinoa. I'm on a kick with peanut coleslaw. Did massage have happy ending blowjob happy funky jam? I probably just offended the entire BOWC, oops.
Nice job on the mile swim! I really miss swimming, I always found it relaxing. Running can be relaxing too, but water is very soothing. I suppose that's not a novel thought, but...one of these days I'll get back into it, perhaps when I've totally destroyed my knees. We'll see--I've thought about doing a triathalon, but triathletes are such douchebags; it's all about the gear for them. Trail runners are way more laid-back group of folks.
Thanks for the quinoa recipe--good idea for a gluten-free meal.
Cheers!

Hi Oliver,
I'm not a faithful blogger...I ran Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday! I didn't know anyone was keeping track!

It's totally the pork scratchings. Thanks for the well-wishes, Oliver, I appreciate it and I'm much better now! Your post reminds of that woman at work (everyone's got one, and why is it always a woman?) who is always trying a new diet every month but doesn't exercise. And the diet is always some sort of quick fix....maybe I should get her to join the social workout.

As a gluten-free person, I'd love to see your brownie recipe. Want to post it? Enjoy the Bikram. I always felt too slippery when doing Bikram!

Good for you making bloody marys a part of your diet. They've got tomatoes, celery, olives, sometimes cheese and cold cuts--that's a complete meal right there. And vodka kills the nasty bugs, so it's perfect!
Quinoa with corn and kimchee sounds good--you want to send me the recipe?
My dilemma: play games and drink wine with Andy, or flip through the biology textbook and figure out what the student readings will be for next week. Hmmmmm....that bottle of pinot grigio is calling! It's so nice not to be sick and to be able to drink again, yee haw!

Hey there! Nothing makes me crazy like not running, so I'm in a superfabulous mood now because I just had my first run in two weeks. So, halfway through the BOWC, I'm in the game. I liked your yoga story--I'm glad to have found a very non-pretentious yoga studio out here! But in Colorado, only people in Boulder have 'tude. Boulder sucks!

Hi there! Since I just got over two weeks of lame workouts (or no workouts), I can say, that rest is worth it and will get you better. Focus on healing, don't focus on the workouts you're not getting, and get well!

Tell me that's not all you ate today! Loved your post about Blasian cyclist boy. Glad that he's still around! And it's really OK to do stuff with your boy pal. I mean, you wouldn't mind going to the gym withe me (if you could drag my ass through the door--good luck with that), and it wouldn't feel couple-y. I LOVE going for runs with Andy. We chat and push each other and blow off steam and it's a good time. All in the name of keeping the old man alive and healthy, right? :-)

Hello! Good luck with the BOWC, and running! I'm a little bummed because I should be running today, but I'm super sick. Are you signed up for any races this spring? That always helps me stick to a training schedule.
Cheers,
