kicked out of spin!! (my fault)
DOH. Wednesday night spin is always empty. Like half empty. So I rarely sign up in advance. But tonight there was this strange force that apparently brought tons of people in. I was 15 minutes early and "my" bike was taken. That's cool, I'm laid back...so I got on another and was warming up, watching the class fill up and fill up and then I started to get nervous.
Workout
traditional Tuesday
I saw that my beloved Tuesday strength class had a sub so I went to the NYSC near my work and did my own workout. I kind of wanted to zone out. This weekend I sort of worked out, in that I hiked a little and put up a tent, ha. I was camping at my CSA farm's open house up past Albany, and it was bliss. Eating tomatoes right off the vine! Walks through cornfields! Sigh.
Workout
conventional post-work workout
tonight I had dinner plans downtown at an odd time so I went to my work-area gym after work and squeezed in a quick 30 minute precor arc trainer thingy workout. Sweaty! Not much to say except doing this made me feel like i was back in my winter routine and a little gym-prisonery. Also, yesterday I did Total Body Conditioning and pilates and I wasn't even sore from hiking!
Workout
Storm King Edition: in which I take my biannual hike
Saturday, we did what good Brooklynites do--rented a zipcar and got the hell out of town. First we went to the Storm King Art Center, which is truly amazing if you haven't been. It involved a lot of walking, since the whole place is huge and there are so many installations spread out from each other. There was a tram but we left that for the old people.

My first Zumba: awkward coworker workout at office bbq
This is belated but am briefly summarizing due to awesomeness. On Friday my entire office, which is about 300 people, had a mandatory fun bbq bash up in the Bronx. There were several activities and one of them was a Zumba class, so I did it. Wanted to see what the fuss was about. All I can say is that it was sooooo awkward.
Workout
I saw muscles!
As I was warming up in spin I caught a glimpse of something via a strange multi-mirror reflection and was like, "O Dang, look at those triceps." But then I realized it was ME! Ha! I'm smart. Also, I was leaning forward on the bike so was extra triceppy but still, it felt awesome! I kept looking until the instructor turned the lights off. Does that make me vain? I don't think so.
Workout
My minutes, I want to log them
I don't know if it's good or bad that I got so attached to logging my minutes that now I'm all, wha? And yesterday, when I skipped my Saturday run, the first thing I thought of was that I wouldn't get to add to the MMM. Ha!
Workout
In which I received a nickname
ooh ooh apparently my spin nickname, bequeathed unto me by my spin instructor is (wait for it): "Pilates."
Wait, what?
Well, he does teach both (a strange combo, I know, but it truly works and both classes are fantastic). But, does this mean that:
a) I am awesome at Pilates? or
b) that I am not good enough at spinning to obtain a spin-related nickname?
I just did 25 more minutes of Running and Walking!

thank goodness for Shakira's faux-South-African World Cup song
....because that's what got me through a zillion rounds of biceps curls tonight in class, whilst in a plie squat.

Oh duh--and it's at NYSC Reade Street at 7:30 on Tuesdays.

Oh! It is Total Body Conditioning, taught by Amira. It's only 45 minutes on Tuesdays (as opposed to her Sunday morning class in Brooklyn Heights) but hard and awesome.

Wait, I'm not on 2.0! I thought I was the only one! Hmm. I assumed it was Challenge-based and I wasn't so into this challenge so here I am, old-schooling it. Bad idea?

It's true! Which would explain why this sighting proved to be so elusive and thus surprising. If only I could walk around in the same leaning-forward-on-bike-handlebars flexing position. That would be awesome.

Wahoo! I will always keep logging the minutes in my heart, though.

Ha ha, I will try to be bitchier next time. I wish I could have transcribed my internal monologue while it was actually happening!
So many weirdos, so many gyms...

Ha! I relish such absurdities. For me, i feel like a spin class is a totally different kind of exercise than real cycling in my neighborhood. Sometimes I just need to soak in the fakeness and the blaring music and the yelling. And sometimes I enjoy things like, oh, fresh air.
What would be super awesome is a spin class...OUTSIDE.

Thanks and yes--Cobble Hill NYSC! I only go there for Wednesday night spin, which is at 7:45, taught by Elgin, who is AWESOME. Great music, he is hilarious but kicks your ass (well, my ass at least), and it is rarely crowded. He also teaches Tues at 6:45 there (that one is usually crowded).
I'm just going outside of Portland to a friend's mom's house, so it'll be strictly suburban running. But still, a nice change from Fulton Street! I'd love to go to Acadia sometime though.

it's such crack that today at 10 am and 2:30 pm I sat there thinking, OMG something is missing! Because there aren't any matches until Friday. Agh!

I watched at Sycamore in Ditmas Park. It was INSANELY crowded and hot and kind of unpleasant, so we adjourned to a random Irish dive for the sad, sad, overtime. So sad!

sigh! We tried, really we did. PS, I also drank too much. Where did you watch?

oh i know, it's amazing, the World Cup. I worry I might get fired for watching every single match online though! Especially today.

omg, the talkers are THE WORST! I have a pair of talkers in one of my classes and they often sit in different rows and just shout back and forth. They don't even turn their heads. It's bizarre!

Agh! Kind of a nightmare. You are not overreacting at all! I agree and think honesty is best, though if I were in your shoes I'd probably laugh awkwardly and say something dumb and then try to pretend it never happened. Kind of my recurring general life strategy, ha.

heh. Yes, it was amazing! Also: butter, meat, ice cream, things wrapped in bacon. And more wine.

I can't say anything about the class, but I'd like to go on record saying that Fort Greene Park is my favorite park. It's small (so maybe not best for longer runs) but is so diverse in its terrain and its people and I love all the nooks and crannies. Much like the neighborhood in general I suppose.
