Looking at this feat sideways
There's a great quote by Carol Shields that I have near my monitor:
"go for long walks,
indulge in hot baths.
question your assumptions,
be kind to yourself,
live for the moment,
loosen up, scream,
curse the world,
count your blessings,
just let go,
just be."
Om yum: love belly
Love belly, love belly... feel like I should be dancing in a sari or with a midriff baring skirt, jingly chain belt around my waist, wiggling ribcage.
Workout
Running Intervals: 60:60:60:60....
Not much time today so I packed as much intensity as I could into a 35 minute run by doing 60 second intervals of moderate to very high intensity. Was the first person to break in the new treadmill at my building (yes, I know. It's the little things.) and made it through the Phantogram album in prep for tonight's show. Plus some Broken Bells.
Love Soul Feat: massage
How do you feed your soul? Is it through worship or prayer? Is it through music or feeling the wind in your ears as you bike on a perfect sunny day? This Love Challenge asks us to feed our soul, to do something that goes beyond the body and into the realm of the spirit. For me, that means taking myself out of my head (where I seem to live) and putting myself in the hands of another.
Workout
Spinning: you're so far around the bend
Gina Kolata writes about science and fitness for The New York Times. She's also aggressively fit and admittedly addicted to exercise. A while back I read her book "Ultimate Fitness" and tonight, post-Spin (725 cals burned in one hour, tyvm), I search Amazon.com's nifty little "search this book" for some fitting phrases to describe why people love this thing called Spin.

Circuit Training with Snype: Gargling Lungs While Shredding Arms
On my way to The Firm I get a text from my friend:
"We are in for a treat."
A half minute later, another text:
"Prepare to get your ass kicked. Brad is out of town and this dude looks scary."
Here's why. Brad is friendly, peppy, gregarious. His classes are hard, but they involve a lot of dancey moves and things flow.

Workout
Running in the dark//talking about Murakami
The new building I now call home has a workout room. It's not much and one of the treadmills has been broken since I moved in. The other one arguably could be called broken too, since it emits a high pitched whine the whole time it's in use.
Workout
Opera on the Dance Floor
Enter the workout studio. Nessun Dorma is playing. Fitting as that translates to "none shall sleep." It's eight a.m. and people are staking spots on the floor for step class. It gets competitive and you can only fit so many people in this place. As the room fills up, my friends and I put our step boxes aside and get ready for a trademark Doug experience.
