Private pilates session at Re:Ab!
Last night, I did a private session with Brittany at Re:Ab pilates. i took a mat class with her last week, and she suggested I try private sessions. She was right! This worked so much better for me. I could really feel my abs working and I "got" a lot of the movements. It's great for me not to feel pressure to keep up with anyone else too! And thanks to Re: A

Spinning!
The first spinning class I've been to in a long while. I liked the teacher (Matthew) all right, but I was concerned that he didn't get on the bike once! All other spinning teachers I've had cycle along with the students and shout out whatever instruction as they go. it's nice to have that sort of camaraderie. All he did was shout out how much tension we should put on our

Pilates at Re:Ab
Last night, I took a beginner mat class as part of a package I bought from Lifebooker. I have not taken pilates before, aside from 2 gyrotonics classes (different, but similar, perhaps?), one pilates mat class years ago at Equinox and one class with a private teacher years and years ago because my mother made me go with her. Each time, I have vowed never to do it again, because I le

IntenSati!!!!
When i first saw footage of a typical intenSati class, I was turned off by the new-ageyness of it. The affirmation part would be cheesy. But i had an invitation from a friend to do a class, and I like to take different classes to see which ones fit.

Little did I know this was to be my last Slim and Strong for January, and my perfect attendance record would be blown. I had to get on a train to DC to visit my dad in the hospital on the morning of the last class (wednesday). He died the following Sunday. February was a bust, I'm afraid.

Best place for a day off
My BFF (Korean, bytheway), invited me here back in September. While it is weird to be forced to wear those unfirms and to be sharing your spa experience with the masses, it's a wonderful thing to do on a random day off of work.
You think you can't????
Trust me. You can. If I can do it, ANYONE AND EVERYONE can do it. Remember, even though your measurements are taken at the beginning and end, the important thing is how you feel about yourself. And you will feel a change after the first week. it's going to be hell, but you'll come out of it loving yourself more, and that way, you'll keep it up!!!!
First of all, are you not supposed to fast before you have your cholesterol levels checked?? I am wary of any doctor who would have a patient test for cholesterol or glucose levels just after they've eaten. A friend called me in tears the other day because a "doctor" had told her her glucose level was 415 or thereabouts and told her that she was suprised that my friend wasn't dead. Turns out "doctor" tested her levels 1/2 an hour after she ate, did not advise that her that they would be elevated because she just ate, and proceeded to threaten her. my friend's glucose is still high, but not THAT high. MY POINT: I'm wary of what doctors and studies say nowadays. It seems that they love to put the fear of God into us whenever they can. After all, it makes them money, and medicine today is a business. Morals and ethics rarely make an appearance.
Second, while it is true that we should pay close attention to our cholesterol levels for various reasons, it is also true that we need to stop pumping ourselves full of fake butter, bacon, etc. in order to do that. Put down the pint of ice cream so that this weekend you can have your real eggs and your real bacon and butter. Prioritize.

EXACTLY fatbottom. I just cancelled my $145 a month Equinox membership. I've found better yoga and pilates classes elsewhere (better in that they hold my hand because I still need that), plus I like BB Boot Camp so much I'm already saving up for september's slim and strong.

Thanks so much for sharing! Now I know I'm not a freak......
I've had a tough year so far. My cat died in January. Then my father died two and a half weeks later. I thought I'd have him around forever, and our relationship was so great that of course it made the loss that much harder to bear.
I started doing yoga seriously in April, still heartbroken, with my mind all over the place. One day, I did one of those poses that twists the torso, and that did it. I held my tears as best I could all the way home, just barely making it to my door without exploding. Once i got behind that door and out of sight, I let it go and it was one of the best cries I've ever had. Little did I know that that particular asana was made for us to let out the emotions that have been plugging up our insides.

I don't know if I'll ever do Bikram yoga again, but I loved my teacher at Bikram Yago East Harlem. I appreciate teachers who let you take ownership of your practice. It means a lot to me. i take vinyasa at LIC's Yoga Room now, and after a day of being told what to do at work, I am so happy to only have to do what works for me and only me.

I can almost understand if the sweat is indeed projectile, or if the Soul Cycle newbies are shaking their sweat out of their perfectly coiffed heads like a labrador. But sweating should never be discouraged in a place designated especially for working out. that's ridiculous. This ain't Barney's.

Wow. Sitting in that room vying for space with all those people looks like a real peaceful time. Sheesh.

Ummmm, maybe I look too much, but I can sometimes see sweat stains on black pants. I wear black pants because I still like to hide, and black is a great color for that.
And PS - my legs are way nicer than they were 10 years ago. Ten years ago I was a fat fuck, and now, not so much!

Brad is looking hot these days. Thank God he cut his hair.
I was wondering about yoga. I am looking to start a practice, and the only thing that deters me is the yogatude, or at least my own definition of it - the insistence that you need to know all the different forms of yoga, maybe a little Hindi as well, and be all peaceful and drip love and light, and the opinion that everyone who doesn't do yoga is a conflicted soul. I am so not that kind of person! I hate on people sometimes, i get pissed off, I am a member of the Facebook group appreciating fine, upstanding young women who say FUCK a lot.... Anyway, I just settled on going to several different places and seeing what they are about and picking one. Thanks to Brad, I now know that there is a place for people like us.
From what I have seen, it is fairly true that obesity is a regional thing. if you go down south, obesity is almost the rule rather than the exception. This goes for a lot of places outside the bigger cities. I know it's now taboo to talk about fat people because the assumption is that you are belittling them. I used to be one of those people, mostly because I was obese (I'm fixing it). But fuck that. Obesity is a problem that's going to kill millions of people and we need to talk about it. Having said that, if there are asshole comments about obese people, that's another issue. But no one should be chastized just for saying the word "fatty". That's ridiculous, and chances are that people who call others on that are just as judgemental about something else. Like me, for instance. I'm way judgemental about that Tea Party crap.

My grandma used to put her saimese on a leash and walk him. my tabby, however, would plop down on the floor on his stomach and refuse to move if I dared to put a leash on him (he was a big boy and needed to walk). Some breeds like it and others will not stand for it.

33,333 minutes of exercise a day? Can I quit my job too and have you guys pay me instead?
All jokes aside, I plan to push it to meet this goal as much as I possibly can. I wonder what counts, exactly. Would I be able to count my walk to and from work? Because I speed-walk since I am almost always late and I work up a bit of a sweat. not cute, but will it count for the challenge???

Willpower and grace is a great class, but you're so right, it depends on the instructor. I was fortunate enough to take it with Staci Lei Krauss, the woman who developed the class. She was so great. i miss her tons!

It's true, Equinox employees can be very snotty. Reminds me of the time I went shopping at Barney's for a present for my mum. i went one day after work, looking a little haggard, and the looks I got from Salespeople and shoppers alike were pretty tough. I went on A Saturday looking fresh with hair perfectly coiffed and carrying my hand bag with the handles around my wrist like a true lady who lunches and got the sames salespoeple flocking over to me to help. i never shopped at Barney's again. Just an aside, Bergdorf's and Bendel's is not like that at all. As long as the employees know that you can pay for stuff, they love you.

Yeah, the Willpower and Grace is a funny name for a class, but it is one of the best classes I have ever taken at Equinox. Sure, i can hardly dress myself or walk for at least three days afterwards, but the results are excellent. I have little to no balance, and this is one remedy for that. Just look at the woman who created the class: Stacie Lee Krauss. i have never seen a more toned woman in my life!!!!
