Workout
11,000 -- Woohoo!
A nice relaxing hour of yoga took me over the 11k mark today...
Workout
A little goes a long way...
Wonderful to return to my favorite (and only) yoga class today after having missed it last week. Only one other person in class, so not much distraction and lots of helpful hands-on cueing from the instructor. Felt kind of sluggish & scattered going in, but newly invigorated & centered coming out, so even just a once-a-week thing has very tangible benefits...
Place:
Abhyasa Yoga Center
Workout
8000 -- woohoo!
Didn't get in my usual workouts over the past week due to parental visit, but now back on track, and happy to be in the 8K club!
Workout
7000 -- woohoo!
Feeling kind of off-kilter today and almost talked myself out of going to the gym, but I'm glad I didn't. At least for the hour+ that I was there I felt strong and clear, even if I went back to feeling hazy and lazy soon after I left. That's okay though, I've earned it, I'm in the 7K club now!
Workout
Work + pleasure...
Hour and a half of intense pilates on the reformer & cadillac, followed by an hour of deep tissue massage -- yummy!
Workout
No excuses!
Finally got my PilatesStick wall board installed today up in my mezzanine studio, so now I really have no excuse not to work a bit of Pilates into the schedule every day, and once I get going I usually don't want to stop...
Workout
6000 -- woohoo!
Feeling pretty lazy today, but after an hour of yoga it's a more serene and satisfied sort of lazy, and plus I just passed the 6K mark -- yey for me!
Workout
French Open makes gym more fun!
Long cardio and weight sessions are much less boring when there are great tennis matches to watch on big-screen tvs, and today had both Nadal winning and Serena losing, both of which I was quite happy about...
Workout
Summer rain...
Walked to yoga class in a sudden summer downpour, got all sweaty in class and did my first semi-successful crow pose, walked back home in another hot rainstorm, did a few more poses on the roof just for the hell of it...

Absolute Power
This place isn't fancy (understatement), and there aren't any special amenities, and the machines are pretty old/shaky, and most of the lockers are broken, and the music is awful. BUT, it's super cheap, a block away from my home, and has an elliptical plus basic weight training stuff, which is pretty much all I need/want from a gym...
Well, even if I didn't come close to threatening bwaytapper or michlny (30k? How did they do that?! Majorly impressive.), it looks like I did at least sneak into the top 15 -- woohoo!
Big thanks and congrats to the whole SW crowd for this collaborative triumph!

I mentioned this in a post awhile back but now I have a reason to mention it again... In the first class I took with a new teacher at Abhyasa she played "Silence is Sexy" by Einsturzende Neubauten, which absolutely endeared her to me forvever and also made me break out into a huge smile in the middle of down dog. This is not music many people have even heard of, let alone think to play in a yoga class, so even though I may have been the only one in class to recognize it, this was an awesome moment for me...
Other stuff I would love to hear in a class (but so far have only heard in my own private home studio): anything by Cocteau Twins or Dead Can Dance! Yes, I was one of those goth kids in high school in the late 80's, and I certainly never would have thought I'd be doing yoga to that music 20 years later, but it really does provide the perfect mix of simultaneously relaxing/invigorating music + not quite discernible but beautifully sung vocals....

Okay, just re-registered with the promo code, so I guess that means I have a guaranteed spot?
I can begin volunteer duties any time after 4pm, so just let me know when/where I'm needed!

Yup, me too -- not sure yet if I have a confirmed spot for the yoga, but I'd be happy to help out the SW team!

Yeah, sometimes I get so caught up in studying the various mysteries of my body that I think are getting in the way of healthy movement/exercise that I neglect to do the most important thing of all, which is just to get moving...
Always trying to find that balance!
And yes, I think that pretty much everyone could benefit from a taste of the Alexander Tech at some point, especially if you have any sort of chronic aches and/or postural issues, but also if you just want to make sure you're getting the most out of your movement and exercise routine...

Jill's dvds and teachings (especially Hip Helpers and Shoulder Shape-Up) have given me so much insight into my body -- can't wait for the "unstable surfaces" one!

I have been to TSNY a few times (by the water) and loved it!! I actually haven't had the chance to do any trapeze-ing at all since last summer, so I'm really aching to do it again... I'm so envious of you, getting to fly on your birthday!!

Okay, after a strong start I sort of dropped out of the Social Workout scene sometime last year, but with this new challenge I am officially proclaiming myself back in the game!
Looking forward to contributing many minutes to the communal cause...

Thanks for that! Sometimes I wish I could be less responsible, but I guess we all have our roles to play...
And yes, the BOWC has actually really helped me start setting boundaries again and reclaim some time for myself and my body, so thank you SW!

Just a clarification... Unless you are using gluten-free oats (by a trusted company like Bob's Red Mill), these brownies would NOT be safe for people avoiding gluten. So, they are wheat-free, but not gluten-free... nevertheless, they sound yummy!

Once the Tracker is fully tweaked I think it'll be great, and a big improvement over last month's chart!
I agree with others on the workout rating options -- too limited right now, so 1-5 stars or something similar would be better.
I also think some Comments aren't getting counted, and as mentioned by sandyliz both the comments and posts need some navigational help...
As far as other "crucial data" to gather about workouts, I think it might be cool to track how often we're all doing primarily either Cardio, Strength, and/or Core Stabilization in our workouts. This would be a way to help us figure out what essential areas we might be over/under-working over the course of a month, though I admit it might be too complicated a task for now...
Otherwise, great work on the site so far!!

I love to read posts like this! I think the #1 most important thing we all can get from pilates, yoga, or any other exercise is more awareness of and ability for self-correction in our posture/alignment, as this can then benefit every other activity in our lives... Good work, and keep it up!

Well, maybe we do... Mine is Mr. Alexander Technique, and he is fabulous! (Actually, his name is Fred, or rather Frederick Matthias)
I encourage EVERYONE who wants to have a happy and healthy body to check him out!
