The Notebook of Workouts Past
I'm plowing through an old notebook of mine and re-working-out all of its workouts. I have no idea when these workouts were initially completed ("F 27" is all that's written on one page) but I suspect they were pre-yoga, and certainly pre-meditation (har dee har har).
- 5 min walk @ 3.2mph
- Stretch
- Lunges, 1 set of 30 @ 12 lb
- Leg press, 1 set of 30 @ 90 lb
Place:
Crunch - Kips Bay
Workout
Pec Flies > Fly Pecs
It's funny how quickly my non-existent fetus disappears as soon as I start hitting the gym again. Duh; note to self.
- 5 minutes walking on the treadmill @ 3.2mph
- Old-skool stretching
- 1 x 30 pec flies, 10 #s in each paw
- Erg: 7 minutes @ resistance = 8, 1579 meters, 3 minutes 'paddling'
- 5 mins walking @ 3.2mph
- Stretching
Place:
Crunch - Kips Bay
Workout
Moving Boxes; Lifting With Legs
I moved all my stuff from my apartment on the Lower East Side into my creative workshop / office in the Flatiron. Chelsea Moving & Storage helped out (at half the cost of my move with Moishe's two years ago from Clinton Hill to the LES).
- 7a - 5p
- Sixteen years of stuff
- One tube of Icy Hot
Workout
Reading. Sweating. No Arithmetic.
I woke up this morning with a throb that threatens any moment to explode into a migraine. Plus, my first meeting's not 'til noon and I'm sponsoring a fundraiser tonight, so I started my day off with a gentle workout conducted with an ish of New York mag in hand.
Place:
Crunch - Kips Bay
Workout
I Didn't Make The Pom Squad
In my post-collegiate ethnic awakening phase, I retroactively decided that the reason I was cut from the seventh grade pom squad -- along with one other person, "the fat girl" who a couple of years ago was sadly found dead in her apartment from a stroke :( -- was because I was an ethnic anomaly in my very small Midwestern hometown.
Class(es) Taken:
Masala Bhangra - Sarina Jain
Place:
Crunch - Kips Bay
Date:
Mon, 09/28/2009 (All day)
Workout Inspiration: Friends
I've been getting distressingly soft the past few months, what with starting my own company and moving into my first official office (as opposed to an executive suite) and being slackadaisacal about my flexitarianism (flexing too frequently ...), so it's always nice to get inspired by my friends.

It's fun, right? It's _just_ the motivation I need to leave the office and hit the gym!

The results of the candy study remind me of the marshmallow study -->

It would be interesting to see the odor issue cross-referenced with the average distance between coworkers in Paris, Madrid, and England. Mewonders if people have more personal space in the locales where other people's stank isn't as ... um ... noisome :)
I personally could not stand the guy who biked to work when I worked at a packed startup in one big room. I could smell him well into lunch... yukkers.

The home page of the core power website makes me think they're targeting folks who are more interested in ripped bods than the spiritual benefits of yoga. This makes me nervous.
Anyone have any experience with core power yoga peeps? Are my concerns unfounded?

You can serve over hot white rice and with a dollop of extra crunchy peanut butter if you want an authentic Thai-style twist (may also want to replace the lemon with a lime). :)

Yay! Lauren, you might be a great person to profile at http://www.dinnergrrls.org -- we're also trying to plan a "yoga for newbies" day as I think connecting with your body is crucial on the path towards career nirvana. Feel free to check out our site and holler if intrigued :)
congratulations

The China Study (one of the texts mentioned in the HuffPo piece) is a book worth reading cover to cover IMHO. One of the interesting nuggets the author reveals is that medical students don't take any nutrition courses (my doctor friends have confirmed this). This seems kind of nutty to me!
Primitive diet makes sense. My mom steers clear of processed foods (she grew up in a remote Thai village and moved here when she was 22) and has never been to the dentist in her entire life.
Her teeth are fantastic. I have eight cavities. I like Corn Pops.

I read The China Study cover-to-cover last year and think that plant-based diets are less a cure for cancer than diets with meat are the _cause_ of cancer ... One of these days I'll make stickers that read
MEAT IS SUICIDE
but for now ... I'll just surf the web :P
