I started training with Mike at the end of January. I'd been somewhat nervous about the fact that I didn’t know anything about the trainer I was to be matched with and I was worried about how I would handle if we didn’t “mesh” well. Turns out, I shouldn’t have worried about that for a sec!

First of all, Mike knows his stuff. Even within the first couple of workouts I noticed a huge difference in what I was able to accomplish, simply by learning more about how the body works from him. It turned out I had some very basic assumptions about working out that were very wrong and that prevented me from really making any significant progress. For example, during the initial assessment, after telling me to hop on the treadmill and do what I normally would, he told me flat out that I “work too hard” and that I couldn’t improve my cardiovascular stamina that way. He gave me a specific heart rate to shoot for during my cardio sessions, and within a couple of sessions my running endurance improved by about 2 miles. It was such a motivating start! He was also able to tell me all about how nutrition affects my progress. Mike had me track my food intake for a couple of weeks and then and helped me come up with a plan to change my diet and incorporate more of the nutrients I need to support my new life-style (for me, getting enough protein was the big problem).

Other than being really well-informed and knowledgeable, Mike is an incredibly supportive, motivating and fun person. I look forward to each of my sessions and he pushes me to my absolute limits, without ever going too far. Every session he changes things up, whether by adding new exercises or by modifying ones we did previously, so it never gets boring or “easy” (and I’m using that term relatively lol). Mike also has been taking the time out to write out for me what he wants me to do that week at the gym when I’m not working out with him, so I can keep on track with everything and continue progressing.

Speaking of progress… I’ve definitely made some in the 10 weeks since starting with Mike. My body fat percentage dropped from 31% to 27% in the first 6 weeks (I’m actually getting measured again tomorrow, so it may be lower now) and I went from a size 10/12 to a solid size 8. I have some serious muscle tone and my cardiovascular fitness has improved tremendously. Most important, however, have been other changes. For the first time in my life I’m actually excited about working out, and always looking forward to challenging my body and pushing myself. I can honestly say that I’ve been in a perpetually great mood since making these positive changes and I know that Mike has been a huge motivator and supporter in this process.

In short, Mike is awesome and I'd highly recommend him to anyone!!!

Another addition: according to the latest measurements, I'm now a lean 21.9% body fat n(reaching and surpassing my goal of 22%). So, I went from 31% to 21.9% in 14 weeks with Mike!!
