Spin Rage and Sweat Management

- Spin Studio (Via Gabriel Porras.)
New York's high end spin studios are fertile ground for gossip. This weekend's harvest: Two separate gleeful reports that profuse sweating is frowned upon at chic Soul Cycle. As in, certain particularly sweaty spinners new to the studio were made to feel unwelcome by their classmates. Now then, projectile sweating in close quarters could certainly prove irksome. Please recall that spin rage (for lesser crimes) can lead to litigation. At the same time, spinning is second only to Bikram yoga in sweat production, and getting too touchy on the subject would seem unsporting at best. Our question: Are sweaty spinners a growing menace, or do high end spinners need to lighten up...?

Comments
Ok, this pisses me off. I just got comfortable with the amount that I sweat when I workout (did Ride the Zone tonight and I was dripping).
I personall am offended by people who don't sweat- You are the freaks.
(ps- I drafted alot of really inappropriate things to comment here but felt I needed to reframe as this is how angry this makes me)

I can totally see this happening at Soul Cycle. However, I can't see this happening at either Ride the Zone or Flywheel Sports and as someone who has sweated like a superfreak at both of those, I can say safely both are filled with people who are just into what they are doing.

OMG!! FatBottomSlim!!! i found an article comparing SoulCycle and Flywheel and of course Flywheel won out. I forwarded the article to other spinning aficionados and in my email, "I wrote I prefer Flywheel and Ride the Zone... I can't even think abt going back to SoulCycle... I need the monitor or a bike that moves!"

Whoever voted yes: I would just like to say, I would love to be relegated to my own private, sweaty room. All of us smelly, hardcore people will work out there, and you will NOT be invited. K thx. :)

In bikram last night some guy waved his arm and a tidal wave of sweat hit my face. I almost vomited. Sorry, gotta vote no sweat on this one.

I second erikka. I don't get my kicks by having body salivation sprayed on me like a childhood summer sprinkler. People sweat, I get it, but the kind of inconsideration some people exploit (or, lord help me, flaunt) is just gross.
We can sweat together. Just don't touch me. Or, as in yoga, park your mat next to mine so your icky soggy bottom is all up in my grill.

I can almost understand if the sweat is indeed projectile, or if the Soul Cycle newbies are shaking their sweat out of their perfectly coiffed heads like a labrador. But sweating should never be discouraged in a place designated especially for working out. that's ridiculous. This ain't Barney's.

A conundrum. I don't like to be next to out of control sweaty people, but then again, I sweat a ton. I try to keep a respectable distance, wear strong deodorant and find spots w/ the most peripheral space possible. Beyond this, I'm sorry, occupational hazard. Look on the positive side - it's probably building your immune system.
I finally got to Jess's class last week - super nice guy who tries to remember everybody's name. Somebody was complaining about something and Jess repeated a couple of times: "well, this is a gym, so....."
