How Much Granola Do You Want with Your Yoga?

The No Om Zone!

I've seen the future of yoga, and here it is: No chanting, no incense, no Hindu gods. Down with Utkatasana, up with Chair Pose! Case in point, a new combo Yoga book-and-DVD called "The No Om Zone" by Kimberly Fowler, an "accomplished triathlete." Kristen Seymour of That's Fit says the box set is solid enough for beginners, but I put this question to you. How much "OM" do you want in your yoga?

I'm always torn on this.  I mean, to leave out all spiritual aspects is disrespectful to the origins of the practice.  But all Sanskrit ostracizes the new or occasional practitioner.  I think each instructor should bring in as much spiritual as they feel, and it will feel genuine, which makes all the difference.

I thought I hated chanting and all the spiritual stuff until I did bikram, which just feels sort of..I don't know...drill sargent driven and totally souless - lights full blast, no acknowledgement of the work done or focus for the day.

I am inbetween on this one. I like physically practicing yoga but I dont like people pushing their spiritual stuff on me. I am not a fan of chanting anything but OM. But I do like beginning and ending the classes with the OMs. The incense makes me sneeze.
