the weight room after about two weeks away from the 'y' due to problems with my membership, i returned and hit the weight room. treadmill, machines, bike.
mother joined the 'Y'! got mother registered for 'y' membership. escorted her to 'chair yoga' class. then hurried to aerobics. i was 20 minutes late, but got in a pretty good workout.
the smoker almost keeled over there was a newcomer in class, who was very energetic with his footwork. but, halfway through class, he couldn't breathe. madeleine helped him out, but brought his smoker status to all of our attention. he was cool about that and hung in there for the remainder of the class. another reason to be grateful that i stopped smoking many years ago.
i waited too long to post this i'm sure if i had written about yesterday's workout yesterday, i would have had more to say i did it. it was good.
steppin' it up madeleine focused on step aerobics today - a more intense workout ensued. new friends in class promised to come hear me play on sunday. and i accomplished part one of my DYI from feralicious - going on 'the hunt'. actually asked someone out. better late than never.
madrobics instructor got a charge out of me wearing the madrobics 2000 t-shirt from when i was going to the 'y' before my move to vegas. she stopped the class to point the shirt out to everyone, some of whom came to get a closeup look. very cute.
why was i late to class when i had more than enough time to get there on time? only missed a few minutes, but was still slightly irritated at myself. another intense workout. nice and sweaty.

where's my motivation? back at the 'y' after too many days. did a mile on the track, then aerobics class. foot pain was so severe that i almost left mid-way through. but we were doing a partner activity and i didn't want to ditch my partner, so i persevered. glad i did. when we got to floor work, i felt my body as unaligned from favoring the foot so much too much. overall, a good workout.
socializing at the 'y' i think it was a reading of how to win friends and influence people many years ago that got me into asking people about themselves as a way to begin relationships. and, for the most part, people do really love to talk about themselves (so do i).
when you stumble out of class, barely able to walk, you know it's been good and it certainly was. feels so good to be taking better care of myself.

heavy beats, primal shouts i wasn't sure that my favorite aerobics class would count toward ritual and rhythm, but once i was in it, there were no doubts. madeleine had new music and a new routine. there were at least 30 of us, dancing and shouting on alternate sides of the room. i even got singled out for my particularly fine hip action.
lost some ground last week's snow workouts were strenuous. but today i felt like i'd been away from aerobics class for months. what a difference a week makes. also i'm not so sure my flat, arthritic feet are up to the pounding of basketball. three days later and i'm still basically out of it. not good.
fun/funny aerobics met new people. learned names of three women. aerobics as social interaction. a good thing.
aerobics then snow workout when i returned home after vigorous aerobics class, snow covered sidewalks were waiting for me. by the time i cleared and salted them, i was totally exhausted. good.
windchill freakout ends still primarily a desert lover, i freaked when the windchill dropped below zero. recovered, i'm back at the y, with a little more stamina for power cycling. disappointing weigh-in. improved lifestyle resulted in 2.5 lb. gain for the month of january. gotta do better with portion control and, yes, i'm still snacking.
i feel good about taking better care of myself now if only i could get snacking under control
