These are huge accomplishments for me I didt fart in yoga and my boobs didn't fall out my top. Yes, I know everyone farts in yoga, but it still makes me nervous. An ill-fitting top caused the rest. But more than anything I'm proud that I made it all the way through a tough class. Even the few minutes of meditation at the end was helpful.
Pilates I went to my first pilates class in years, and really did not enjoy it. I think it was partially the small studio that was over crowded that turned me off, and I probably will not go back. But I am trying to vary my workout to keep things interesting so that I won't get bored.
in which I confirm that yes, the suburban gym is packed with women at 10:30AM I went for BodyPump at 10:30am at the gym out in Henderson since I had some errands and a meeting out there around late lunchtime. Turns out, this specific BodyPump class is always super-jammed and I was very lucky to find small spot in the front corner of the room! It seems Ginny, the instructor, always draws a big crowd. I quickly learn why - she's excellent at demonstrating
power yoga I had an early afternoon 90min power yoga session with the truly wonderful Don. I was about to just stay home and do a short treadmill run at the downstairs gym, but I drove through the traffic to take yoga with him. I have never, ever regretted dragging myself off my butt to do yoga with Don, and I'm always feeling so good afterward. Today we did a ton of twists and back-stre
jumprope, bosu, and a successful crow! If you take nothing else away from this blog post, know this: I held Crow for 3 full seconds today!
I hate when the yoga instructor is just awful Three months ago, I took a class with Fatima, who was incredible. I've been scouring the gym schedule for her name almost constantly since, and I finally found her teaching late this afternoon at the LVAC location that's really far from me. I rearranged my schedule to make it to her class and I was even early! But there was a sub!!!
taking the day off leaves me feeling lost and confused After chatting with Dana on Wednesday about the virtues of not overtraining, I mentally prepared myself to take off Thursday. I hate taking days off. When I first really started seriously running, I loved days off more than I love chocolate cake. These days, not true. Now I loathe days off because they make me feel so lazy. Even more so when I try to take my mind o
It's dreamy group fitness instructor week in my life In which this week's "Featured Body," babarbanel, gets lots of individual attention from dreamy yoga instructor Don. I began my workout with a 5 mile run to get my blood pumping. On today's training schedule, I needed to do a run and strength training. I've found that I far prefer power yoga to lifting weights. With yoga I get not only strength from controlling my own body weight, but a stretch which has made a huge positive difference my running. For the second day in a row, I get to salivate over my very sexy class instructor. While yesterday I loved Andre for the punishment, Don gets marks for his voice and his ridiculous abs.
Not a very typical day In which this week's "Featured Body," babarbanel, finds heaven with a masseuse whose touch is silken joy... 7am: leap out of bed, started work immediately. I submitted everything by 10, and I rushed off to 10:30 Kickbox class with Andre. I hadn't been to his class since late December, when he told us he was out of town for all of January. So I finally made it back for the 4th Tuesday in February. A little slow on the return, but eh. The class was completely full, more so even than usual. The woman next to me and I laughed when he was describing the class to the newcomers and he called it "uptempo." Yeah, right. This class is so fast I can barely keep up, and I not only know what's happening, but what's coming next, too. I remember my first time in the class, and it was near impossible. He takes me to the brink, and then declares that we will be going double time. Oh Andre, you're so funny. But somehow I still manage to speed it up. I still love him passionately. If Andre started a kickboxing cult, I would join in a second. I had to walk out the suffering after class, and did another 30 min on the treadmill.
run and BodyPump 4.5mi run, followed by a little BodyPump action. The instructor today was so ripped, and she looked amazing. Totally inspired by her, I put on a little extra weight. I'd done my run at a pretty leisurely pace, especially compared to the speed training I'd been doing over the last few days, so I felt OK upping the lbs. Or kg, I guess, since this class comes from NZ.
mid-day run I managed to get away to the gym during lunchtime of my long day for a 4.5 mi run at the gym. Luckily, tomorrow I can rest a bit becuase I got so much done today. Hooray! and now, to TV and sleepy time!
I am still afraid of boot camp This past week, work has been surprisingly and mercilessly busy. I managed to exercise not at all and eat like crap most of the time. Seriously, I ate bacon sandwiches for lunch 3 days in a row. I don't even really like bacon sandwiches. It was ridiculous, really.
none of yesterday's bouncing but plenty of sweaty goodness today brought a totally calm and lovely workout, unlike yesterday's awkward one. And as soon as I'm done writing this, I'm taking a nice, long, bath. Perfect rainy day evening.
Step Machine 50 minutes on the thing that's not quite an eliptical, but closer to the stair machine. I really should find out what it's called, since it's probably my favorite one. When it come to humdrum cardio, having a tv in front of me makes it so much better. I have to say though, that between the yesterday and Monday, when I increased my weight for squats, my thighs are burning.
run & yoga my morning meeting ran late so I didn't have enough time to get in a full 4 mile run before yoga at the gym, so I did 2.91 miles, yoga (which was very nice, I like this instructor!) and 2.18 miles after.
short n' sweet 6 mile run, felt really great. I'm really starting to get pumped for my half marathon in March. I'm thinking about driving out to Hoover Dam (about 40 min away, something like that) to try out the course, perhaps next week. It's still a bit cold so I might wait until further into February.
24hrs later, I finally make it to bodypump, hooray! I got to the gym early, got in a 10 min warmup on the treadmill (5 min at 6.0, 5 min at 7.5), and then headed over to BodyPump. Ouch, I haven't lifted in a while! It felt really good to work on pretty much every single muscle in my body. After, I did a 20 min run (10 min at 6.0, 5 min at 7.1, 5 min at 6.0).
getting back in the swing of things As far as workouts go, this was totally not my day. I went downstairs this morning to get in a run at our condo gym, only to discover that every single treadmill has an "Out of Order" sign on it, and the section is blocked off by caution tape. I went to go ask the front desk when they'd be fixed and I got a confused look - apparently someone was in there yesterday to fix them and th
