93 degrees and 50% humidity And that was outside all weekend. I went to Bikram with Aura Sunday night. My yoga buddy didn't show up. It was hot and difficult.
Ah Bikram with Aura Challenging, sweaty, satisfying, fun. The usual!
Bikram on a hot day There was sweat. My abs look a-ok.
Weights and Yoga Completely Complimentary Fourth or fifth or sixth . . . I've lost count . . .
The Hot Box Was Not So Hot I think I will write a children's book about Bikram in the style of Seuss. My standing leg was not concrete, lamp postThough I was sizzling like a roast That's not so much Seuss as just rhyming.
Hooray for Workout Buddies I am so grateful for my friend who bought a month-long pass to the Bikram studio in my neighborhood. She has to schlep so much farther, but making the plan to meet got me there when I otherwise wouldn't have gone. After a night of poor/little sleep and a headache all day, I had a most unlikely wonderful class.
Super Hot, Crowded, and Fabulous I'm sorry, but Aura is so charismatic, so hot, so wonderful, that a class with her cannot be bad. I felt amazing afterwards. This was the first time in eons that I'd done Bikram two days in a row, and I feel like I'm on a roll. Back in the groove, bitches!
Low Expectations = Great Class Out past my bedtime the night before, including consumption of a couple of adult beverages. I drank some water, but not lots. It had been several days since I'd been to class . . . .
Worlds Better Oh my. Bikram was soooo much better last night than the last two times I'd been. There are so many variables--hydration, mindset, other exercise, teacher . . .
Rusty Doesn't Even Come Close It's been two weeks since I last set foot in Bikram. It felt like it had been two years. Ugh.
A Hot, Steaming Room of Human Suffering I was thinking of enumerating all the generally icky and annoying behavior in last night's Bikram class, plus all the inner stuff I had going on making me less than happy, but suffice it to say that after a good gym workout and not enough water, and no yoga in more than a week, I was. not. feeling it.
Of course I'm good at awkward So, I seem to have settled into a routine of getting to Bikram twice a week, on top of my new running and strength regimes. Not terrible. Each time, of course, I'm super stiff, so I am not as good at the postures as I've been in the past. And each time I seem to go pretty easy on myself. I just tell myself to get as much as I can out of it, because it will feel good and
My Bikram class was totally meh! Bikram tonight just reminded me of how much flexibility I've lost through running and strength training. HOWEVER, it also reminded me of the leg strength I've gained (awkward and standing head to knee have never been better) and gave me a prolonged period during which to admire my toned arms. So, there's that!
Back to Bikram after a Break My first Bikram class in a week. The heat felt wonderful, and though I was tight, it was clearly exactly what my body needed. I was glad I'd taken a little time off. Instead of resenting the work, I welcomed it.
Bikram + push-ups Got myself up and out for a solid Bikram class with the always-fabulous Tania. Thought about running, but the rain rain rain kept me inside. While in, though, I did some good catch-up on my push-ups. One hundred today!
Me and sprints: an awkward first date I've been trying to increase both my speed and endurance by working through a six-week running program I found on line. Today's schedule: run ten minutes, then for the next 35 minutes run 3 minutes, sprint 1 minute, and walk one minute. Well, I think it was too much for me to both do sprints (ouch my lungs) and run for the first time without music. I made it for 25 of the 35 m
Bikram + running = elusive exercise satisfaction 9 a.m. Bikram and a four-mile run. What else can I say? Getting there with my fitness goals and it feels GOOD!!
Bikram + walk Good Bikram class and a wonderful 6-mile walk to the fish market.
6:15 a.m. Bikram and strength in my office Credit to my fiance for encouraging me to get out of bed at 5:30 this morning to get to Bikram class. And credit to teacher Megan, who actually got the room hot at that early hour. My practice has really suffered since I started running again and doing strength. And my tolerance for the heat isn't what it used to be. Anyhow, Megan is a great teacher, and as usual, it fel
