I quadruple heart Sadie Nardini’s one-hour yoga class at The Fierce Club. Let’s start with the studio itself. The Fierce Club is undeniably cool – its street level Soho space has soaring ceilings, a loft-style polished cement floor, and a stunning wall mural that’s half cubist, half street graffiti, and totally awesome. The mantra, “The Guru is the Self,” runs across the top. What’s not to dig? And then there’s Sadie....

She’s like ten times hotter than anyone should be, she’s funny, and she’s bad-ass. At one point, she instructed us all to kick the "shiznit" out of a pose. And she was all about stoking our fires, and feeling the fire in our muscles, etc. Like, when we were holding a deep lunge, forever, and began to wonder if the burning sensation might potentially be fatal. Sadie’s answer: It’ll hurt, that’s all, and then you’ll breathe and pass through it (maybe even go deeper!) and when you’re done your body will be more open, more receptive, and energy will flow right through you. Right on!

The Fierce Club's signature Core Strength Vinyasa style is a pleasant surprise: Lot's of breathing, and waves of movement that help connect various "power" poses. But more than anything, I loved The Fierce Club attitude. No one was trying to pretend we weren’t in New York anymore. The music was hip – Mos Def, Jill Scott, an awesome acoustic cover of “Hey Ya” by Matt Weddle. In fact, before our final om we all chanted “Hey Ya” along with the song. It was refreshing. It was fun. I didn’t leave feeling blissed out. I left feeling like a serious mama out to conquer the world. Not bad for a one-hour yoga class.
