Feat
Stand Up!
Stand up on all public transport. Bonus: Get off one stop early. While your standing, complete ten toe lifts, i.e. where you rock forward on your toes, elevating your heels. Try not to hold on to any support. Sometimes this is all you can get done, but it's much better than nothing. Also, sitting will kill you.

typo: should be "you're"--
also, is this for EVERY DAY of the challenge? what about cabs, airplanes, and long train rides?? i need some more parameters.

I do calf raises on the subway often. people think it's weird. i think "you're jealous"

I second MM's request for clarification! I can happily do this on my commute to work but some of the journeys I take are over 90 mins!

I had the added bonus of a full backpack to balance while standing.

I am walking an extra 2.3 miles everyday roundtrip to and from work. Oh yeah!

I wasn't going to stand for the hour from Port Authority to my brother's in New Jersey... but then the bus was packed and I was forced to! The stars MUST be in my favor!

yess.. I like this one!
My favorite trick of lately has been to stop buying unlimited mta cards. It encourages me to walk everywhere possible. (best with good weather and downtown location).
..if I'm cheap enough to let 2.25 deter me from going down into the subway, you can bet I'm not springing for cabs either

the looks i got on doing the toe lifts were great! "what other people think of me is none of my business" :)
Submitted by ALKings10 on 12.04.09 at 06:48.
I do this everyday. People look at me funny when im the only one standing on a pretty empty train.
Submitted by jmmartim on 12.06.09 at 01:19.
I do this all the time now and I usually get on the subway at the first stop when the car is really empty. The strangest looks I get though is when I get on an empty bus and try to fit myself in an inconspicuous spot where I'm not in anyone's way. and what thriviver said about not buying unlimited metrocards anymore, I love doing that and seeing how far I can get without getting on the subway. There were times when I walked from Central Park to South St. Seaport so I wouldn't have to pay, but now that it's cold I don't think I can do it.

I've decided that standing up on the Hong Kong buses is too dangerous. (Plus, it's painful: I spend 50 minutes hunched over because the ceilings are too low.) So I'm standing up on the MTR and getting off the bus TWO stops early. Plus, I'm limiting the taxis.
Submitted by hktexan on 12.14.09 at 05:22.
i must confess, i did feel self-conscious doing this!!! plus, it is not an easy thing to do with backpack filled with workout gear!!
Submitted by sandella on 12.18.09 at 01:49.
i stood up. it sucked. but now i'm in maine and there's no more public transportant for me, so: feat accompli.
this one really made me mad sometimes...i'm such a bag lady and if there are a trillion seats open, it really did NOTHING for my well-being to stand. HMPH. but, i did it.
Submitted by msh258 on 12.24.09 at 09:58.
Is this meant to be "Stand up on all public transport." for the entire length of the challenge or some shorter period?
Submitted by @HereNow on 12.24.09 at 10:17.
I even stand and walk while I work at the computer.
Submitted by lhlady517 on 12.30.09 at 01:00.
Feat accompli. This week was the most challenging as there were empty seats.
Submitted by @HereNow on 12.31.09 at 04:45.
I only took public trans twice throughout this challenge. I take it to go to the airport since parking at the airport is really pricey over a few days.
Easy not to sit when you know you'll be sitting for hours in a teeny tiny little seat with either a baby, a sick person, or an overweight guy will be next to you.
