Feat
D.I.Y. Feral!
As (almost) usual, we give you one feat to make up for yourself. The sky is the limit: It may be food related, or another exercise activity, or it have to do with your sleep patterns or bedside reading. Whatever it is, however, it must be something that stirs the wild in your nature....

I'm declaring my D.I.Y. One of my worst habits is online shopping. Worst. Drugstore.com is one thing, but I've started getting annoyed when I have a call at noon and won't be able to check Gilt Group. So, for the Feral Challenge, I am currently constructing a filter in my Gmail for emails from Saks, Big Drop, blah blah. Skip the inbox.

Brilliant art direction on this one!

One of my worst habits lately has been staying up far too late--and, really, for no good reason. I declare my DIY be at least 20 of the 31 nights turned in no later than 10 pm.

No cigarettes, no Coke, and finally getting my hands on a copy of Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer that I've been after for months and can't find. And reading it.

I just don't spend enough time out with my dogs. So my challenge for the month, now that the weather should be nicer(ish) is to get out with the dogs at least 10 days.
I'm a newbie so I don't want to set myself up for failure.

my d.y.i.: to put all insecurities aside and go on "the hunt" - twice

My DIY feat... lose 10 lbs during the challenge. I figure that is 2lbs a week. Not a terrible goal.

I do flying trapeze for fun, but I need to stregnthen my core to improve my skills. My do-it-yourself will be doing the strengthening activities that I have for trapeze daily.
Also, I want to be more positive about everything.

@shawninchgo - that. is. AWESOME!
good luck!

I'm gonna try to do a juice cleanse for at least three days at the end of March :)

I'm going to do some sort of animal movement (crabwalks, bearwalks, monkey....something, rabbit hops, etc.) 15 times during the month! Makes me feel silly.

Hello, my name is Laura and I am a TV addict.
I am going to stop watching TV for the challenge.
Submitted by vajardin on 03.03.10 at 10:50.
I think this is a great idea for the challenge. I'm not making it my DIY (though I probably should) but I'm making a conscious effort to get to bed earlier....

@gotigers2003 Me too! I mean, I'm addicted but I haven't set up an email filter ...yet? (not sure i'm strong-willed enough to do that!) . . . I started shopping Gilt on my phone, because I noticed that the sales would go live a few seconds earlier there than on my computer. It's a sad state of affairs . . . In addition to all the emails, I constantly search shopstyle for things on sale, and now that I'm in the process of moving to a new apartment my obsession has expanded to include scouring craigslist/apartment therapy/crate & barrel/dwr/west elm/etc for all things home-related. I should take a cue from you and stay away for a while . . . because clearly I have a problem. Haha! Best of luck!!!!

A good challenge for me is to give up soda. I never buy it for the house but when I'm at work I usually have a diet soda with lunch or in the afternoon. I'll try downgrading to club soda/seltzer for the bubbles and eventually regular water.
march 12 - this is a tough one. I almost broke down yesterday and today. Be strong, carry on.

A week into the challenge and I just thought of mine now: NO FACEBOOK and useless googling/blog-reading...for the rest of this month (midterms!!!!!). And also, a half hour/day of tv only. I am the queen of wasting time and time is what I need when i am up at three AM working on my midterm paper. Go, me!!

My D.I.Y. feat is to shun carbonated beverages for 20 of the 31 days. So long, daily Mountain Dew =[
Submitted by HoriKurapu on 03.12.10 at 03:12.
I ran an entire half-marathon...no walking!
Submitted by babarbanel on 03.13.10 at 10:19.
My D.I.Y. feat was to spring clean, from top to bottom! This included the windows (outside & in) and washing the carpets. To top it off, I pimped out my bed...again!
Submitted by tracey on 03.14.10 at 11:53.
FYI in case anyone is interested (probably not, but I feel better putting it out there and committing to it) - I'm changing my DIY. Initially I said I was going to do 4 trapeze classes (I feel its wild!), but my wallet got stolen and I had to cancel all my credit / debit cards. Therefore I don't have access to my money. Therefore I cannot pay for trapeze. So, I am borrowing from the New Years Edition Challenge. If Feral means returning to a previously wild state, then humans, in their wild state, were sans electricity. So I am going to go electricity free for 8 hours by the end of March. I feel this qualifies as "wild" in a sense!

My feat has been to go 2 weeks with only 1 Diet soda every other day....I have acomplished that:)
Extra things I'm tried to add into my routine are. Drinking my green sludge like powder each night & trying to eat as few chemicals as possible in my food....Both have been hard but I feel so much better doing those:)

It's a little anti-climatic whittling down to zero in the email inbox (down from over 1500 a month ago, over 3100 including Out). There is no number 0 to welcome you; it's just all really empty. That was less than 24 hours ago, and things in the In are gurgling back to life. The eOffice served as due metaphor for the real office. I still have weeding to do, but everything is so much better contained than a month ago. Thanks again, SW, for the nudge!
