Spin, Adjust, Pray, Attack
Monday afternoon, 6:15PM, Equinox Soho: "studio cycling" with Will Ashley. I'm late, and the class is fully sold out on paper. Still, I peer in to the studio at the official start time, and I spot several empty bikes. A few others have the same idea, and we grab all the free spots. Things are just about to get going a few minutes later, when a woman walks in, cycling shoes in hand, and finds all the spots taken. Clearly, she had signed up in advance, and now she asks Ashley what to do. All eyes are on him, as he finishes adjusting someone's peddle. I look on, silently spinning away, with mix of guilt and fear of ejection. Letting a beat go by as he finishes his task, Ashley turns to her and points to the clock, which is now just past 6:20PM.
