Meals On Your Yoga Mat

Pairing wine and food — old hat. Pairing food and yoga (and maybe wine too) — the hot new thing. The New York Times hit up the Yoga for Foodies event with David Romanelli we mentioned last week. Splashy pictures and a hard-hitting exposé on flagrantly non-vegetarian yogis ensues. If you're all hot and bothered after reading about sun salutations and chocolate truffles, keep in mind it's not too late to get in on Dave's Yoga and Wine in Argentina retreat this April...

Workout

Aerobics

I squished in 45 minutes of aerobics on the 21st even though I needed to pack, shop and bake Christmas cookies. After working out I drank wine and sat on the couch smuggly congratulating myself on exercise well done ... only to run out of time to do the other things. Ooops!

Yoga and Wine in Argentina

  • Who: Angela Gargano owns Bliss Flow Yoga in Madison, Wisconisn, and is on her way to being a Master Sommelier. David Romanelli owns a yoga studio in Arizon, lives in Santa Monica, CA., and wrote Yeah Dave's Guide to Livin' the Moment which is currently topping the self-help bestseller list on Amazon. These two invented "Yoga + Wine" retreats, which seem to be popular. Expect youthful, hedonistic, idealistic yogis.
  • What: Daily yoga plus tango lessons, vineyard tours, and wine tastings. Lot's of "accessible pathways" to living in the moment. Think chocolate, wine, and music.
  • Where: Buenos Aires and Mendoza, Argentina.
  • When: April 15 - 22, 2010
  • Why: The itinerary is killer. I know, I just got back from almost the exact same trip, stayed in the same hotel in Mendoza, and even visited some of the same wineries. Stunning. Kaitlyn, k.ben, and msh258, all agree: You have to go to Argentina. And the bonus is that Angela and Dave are both vocal advocates of living fully, with all your senses, and this trip is as much about the wine as it is about the yoga.
  • How Much: $3,760. Cost includes all accommodations, food, activities, tips, and airfare within Argentina.

Me, My Roommate, and Clyde and Bessie

Hi folks!

I have to say, I'm a little lazy about the whole workout blog thing lately... namely because I don't wanna throw consecutive blog posts up on the boards and spam your attention spans. Maybe some late evening I'll sneak in my workout recaps, but for now, I shall provide you again with my epically long posts detailing several workouts and end with a little Irish jig.

Struggles in Workout Video Land

Tried a new SELF video (Slim and Sleek FAST), but had enormous trouble with the moves. Ellen Barrett instructing, but I find her to be a little off her game in this one. The descriptions are not clear, and I find many of the moves hard to follow.

On Partying

Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action. ~Benjamin Disraeli

Spring has returned to NYC, hooray! Things are moving slowly at Social Workout HQ this morning, however. Last night's Launch Party and B.O.W.C. victory bash too much fun. Thanks to everyone who came out. Full report, with pictures, and B.O.W.C. final results coming right up!

Not a Snickers Ad

Great Britain vs. Wine

The British Government has declared war on obesity, and among its first targets are drinkers. According to British government intel, "The average wine drinker consumes an extra 2,000 calories a month - the equivalent of 184 bags of crisps." This comes via The Telegraph, which further notes: "Few middle class drinkers realise that a couple sharing a bottle of red wine a night are both consuming the equivalent of a Snickers chocolate bar in alcohol." Appalling. You'd never see the French government release such data.

Here's the problem: New Yorkers go from work to gym, and then out to dinner. Londoners skip the gym, go directly to the pub, and load up on "pork scratchings." (L.A. people, of course, drive to yoga, and then go for sushi.) Anyway, we blame the pork scratchings.

Pilates for the blind

I have been thinking since Sunday about what my plan was for exercising this week, besides running. (These are definitely new thoughts, so again, thank you BOWC.) I've been thinking about trying Pilates (I know - where have I been that I haven't tried pilates yet??).
