Misha Koklyaev Live in Glasgow
Misha Koklyaev is a Russian weightlifter. Recently he went to Glasgow, Scotland to do an "exhibition." He seems like a very happy guy, and you can watch him in the following video popping his collar and then achieving the world record in the "no hands squat." That is, he squats 639 pounds with the weighted bar resting delicately on his upper back. Weightlifting always strikes me as slightly narrow and fetishistic, but perhaps no more than any other hobby. Anyway, it seems to have been good to Misha. He says he would have been lost without it: "God must have kissed my head and said 'You will be a weightlifter, motherf*cker'." I won't argue with him. The Great Sunscreen Backlash
Nothing is more sacred to modernity than sunscreen. Mothers get hysterical without it, and large parts of the Florida economy depend on it. It is the subject of Kurt Vonnegut myths and Baz Luhrmann hits. Sooner or later, though, all our idols fall. Last week the relatively trustworthy Environmental Working Group released its annual study of the 500 sunscreens on the U.S. market and gave their seal of approval to only 8% of them. The other 92%, says the EWG, either dangerously exaggerate their SPF claims, or they contain "a form of Vitamin A" that might actually accelerate the "growth of skin tumors and lesions." (Got that? Bad sunscreen gives you skin cancer.) OK, so mom just needs to buy the good sunscreen, right? Wrong! Now the Paleos are on the warpath....
