Tabloids Take On New York's Meanest Yoga Teacher
If you like to be manhandled in your yoga, please consider Otto Cedeno at Bikram Yoga Union Square, whom The Post has dubbed New York's "meanest yoga teacher," and who unfortunately confesses that his own friends call him the "Yoga Nazi." (Move over Soup Nazi!) He barks, he kicks, and he has a lot of rules....
Among his many pet peeves: No water for about the first third of the 90-minute class; wash off all makeup (it leaves streaks on rented towels); no loose-hanging clothes; and hair must be pulled back.
Who's the target audience? "Football players, basketball players, hockey players," he says. "A lot of Broadway performers. People who strive." Also, people with extra cash: A drop in at Bikram Union Square is a cool $30. Now, before we get all high and mighty, a few things to note....

Live From Union Square
Every Thursday morning at 8 A.M. people work out in Union Square. It's called Summer in the Square, and our dark poet-reporter is on the scene this morning and has just called in this report:
At least 30 people. So fucking '80s! They've got the red rubber band thingies under their Reeboks, and they're doing triceps work. But here's the crazy thing: The squirrels are doing exactly the same thing. Uh oh, it's starting to rain.
Doh! Summer 2009. Anyway, next week is the last week, featuring yoga, Tai Chi, and "low impact cardio." Just FYI.

Impressed by the wealth of activities on offer, and with our Feats of Summer challengers front of mind (yes, stragglers still welcome), we've gone and compiled the following Social Workout Fit and Thrifty Guide to 4th of July Weekend. Enjoy....

Workout
...all packed into one Friday, which turned out to not be so rainy!
This morning, as promised, AGAIN...8am Muay Thai. It wasn't such a heavy workout because it was primarily technique. Ironic, how since I've gotten shinpads, they have been unneeded! Private Yoga session with urbansherpa. Afterward, we decided to check out the vital juice event at the old Virgin on Union Sq. Although we did not take any classes we reaped the benefit of free ish.

Day 23, Anticipating rain.
I didn't walk to work today because I thought it was gonna rain! All morning I looked out the window trying to predict the weather...with the clouds and then sunshine breaking through and then more clouds. Capoeira was cancelled due to the holiday schedule but a bunch of us wanted to meet up and play anyways...hence the close watch on the weather.
Workout
Day 14, Daily doses of vitamin D.
I woke up today and my arms and shoulders were all tight and sore. DAMN. Being that I don't lift weights...I know this is from walking down Broadway with 2 boxes of Lean Body for work. WACKNESS. I woke up and did a set of abs and called it a day, since I felt cranky.

Crunch on 13th Street is Closing...
Recession alert: Crunch is shuttering its 13th Street Manhattan location, i.e. turning off the treadmills and ellipticals, powering down the steam room, cleaning out the blenders one last time.... It's sad news for the East Village/Union Square set as this was an excellent, multi story club.
