Dumb Things You Can Do At The Gym

For real. I just completed a mile in 12 minutes and 40-somthingish seconds. I. Am. So. HAPPY.
I know, it doesn’t sound like much, but just last month I couldn’t complete a mile in 30 minutes.  Yesterday I about died in 16 minutes. Tomorrow I’m pushing for eleven. I seriously cannot believe how amazed and thrilled I am by this.

ALMOST.

Almost a 13 minute mile. I worked my ass off for 3 quarter miles in a row, stopped, and mistakenly thought that it was a mile.  I managed a 16 minute mile, but the very fact that I believed (for a minute), that I had done a 13 min/mile was really inspiring.  I can't wait to work out again todayy

Typical Monday

I ran on the treadmill for 18 minutes (+5 minutes warm up +4 minutes cool down).It was fine. Easier to do with a crowd on the go.

 

Then I dashed to my yoga class. Christine is trying to teach us a routine so we can practise solo. We spent a lot of time on sun salutations a + b. (90 minutes)

Feeling like jelly-legs, but that's all right.

I took a few days off from exercising, mostly due to the fact that Monday and Tuesday are class days, so I’m always trying to finish something up and cram as much homework into those days as is possible. Tonight, I was happy to get back to the gym, clocking another 75 minutes to add to the pot.

Back in the Saddle

After a month off for various reasons, I got the go-ahead for getting back in the gym.  I hopped on the treadmill for a good warm-up, worked out my arms, shoulders and back with free weights and machines, and then hit the elliptical for a short interval workout.

Bruce Springsteen Romances The Ladies at New Jersey Gyms

New Jersey housewife Ann Kelly and Bruce Springsteen's affair "began with chitchats on the treadmills at a high-priced Red Bank, NJ, gym." So begins the sordid tale of the Boss's recent affair in today's New York Post. He stood at the end of her treadmill when she ran and told her she had the best ass in the gym. She posted her friends as lookouts and instructed them to call her whenever Springsteen was at the gym. Next thing you know, she's getting breast implants and he's giving her front row tickets to rehearsals. Sadly, Ann's husband Arthur didn't really enjoy that. But in the end, it all came back to the gym. "The breaking point in the marriage allegedly came when Arthur told Ann a witness had spotted her kissing Springsteen in the parking lot of their gym." Lesson: Unclear, though their gym, the Atlantic Club, looks nice.

Run Of The Mill

Rolene couldn't join me today so I took it easy and went on the treadmill. After a 5 minute warmup I set the treadmill at 7km/h and ran 5K. I ran non-stop for 42 minutes! Say WHAT!?

That's right; I spent 47 total minutes on that thing; no breaks, no slowing down.

Faster, Pussycat!

Forwent the sunshine to work on speed on the treadmill.  My average speed was no higher than usual, but I got five bouts of fastness in--two four-minute runs and three one-minute sprints at speeds above my norm.  I pushed myself a bit.  I want to get faster, but mostly I'm just so happy to be getting to that place where I enjoy running, that I don't care too much what my pace is.

A better run

Upped my running stamina and actually enjoyed my 40 minutes on the treadmill today.  I didn't feel tired, perhaps because I waited until the end of the day and hadn't really exerted myself since yoga the day before.  The run put me in a great mood for the rest of the evening.  Polenta and Trivial Pursuit followed.  AND, the gym at work got an assisted dips/pull-ups machine!&
