Workers' Rights at WORK
At a lot of gyms, personal trainers are more or less exploited. They get a fraction of the per-session price you pay, and they're treated as interchangeable commodities. Not so at WORK. Nestled above the Duane Reade on Broadway at Bleecker, this 3,000 square foot studio has the usual cardio machines and weight machines, plus punching bags and a full size boxing ring, but the philosophy is different.

Working Out With Dogs (and Trainer) Week Two
Dogs in attendance and still winning my heart as workout company. Great training session- though I blame my intense shortage of breath on the Utah to NYC altitude change, more commonly known as 3 days of sheer debauchery to one's body.

Bust those thighs
Trained with Armando tonight and boy are my buns tired. Even in bed I can feel everything preparing to be soar tomorrow. How am I going to take pole tomorrow, seriously!
Work out at WORK
First personal training session of the year. Did mostly lower body. Knocked 80 crunches off the 1,000 needed for the new challenge feat.
I need to lie down now.

AG Fitness Resort - Wednesday
This morning I woke up tired. Really tired. My mind was ready to go, but my body was sore, fatigued, and my arms were beat from last nights boxing workout. My quads shook when I tried to sit down. My calves yelped as I got up on my toes to open up the chicken coop. So my cure? Water, and more Yoga.

Tim Haft on Group Fitness Potential and Being a Punk
Tim Haft is the founder of Punk Rope.
Primarily, I’m a sports guy. I’m not a fitness guy or a yoga guy, I’m a sports guy. If you’d asked me when I was a kid I would have said my dream was to be a professional athlete. But the problem was I wasn’t particularly good. Now I do get paid for jumping around, but it’s not what I would have thought.
I started as a personal trainer about 11 years ago, and it was really just for fun. If anything it was just to help my dad do better in his events. He was a marathoner and competitive tennis player, and I wasn’t really going anywhere with my "racquet ball career." I was always interested in performance and maximizing what you were given. And then because my dad was a marathoner, I got interested in long distance running and coached for five years, mostly beginning runners. The real reason I got into running, though, was because I had really severe back problems in my 30s and my orthopedist told me I shouldn’t do anything with impact, and being the punk that I am I said I’ll show you and went right into marathon training.

Group Training and Nutcracker Fitness
- Relaxing your jaw can help your athletic performance, reports the New York Times. Apparently this is easier said than done, and performance mouth guards seem to be the trick. They're pricey, and sort of throw off the look, but, ooh, that relaxed jaw feels good.
- Small group personal training, as opposed to personal personal training, is a trend on the rise, according to the American College of Sports Medicine. Cause it's cheap (or comparatively cheap).
- Professional ballet choreographer Stas Kmiec debuted a new class, "The Nutcracker Workout," at the Philadelphia Sports Club. Think Balanchine choreography set to Tchaikovsky, but with sneakers.
- Only one in ten people who think they get enough exercise actually do, says a new study. Though the study took place in England, so you have to account for the fact that these are British people.

Jackie Warner on Shooting DVDs, Treadmill Intervals, and Looking Like Scarlett Johansson
Jackie Warner spent three seasons in front of the camera on Bravo's Work Out, running her Beverly Hills gym, and causing midwestern housewives to question their sexual orientation. The show ended in 2008, perhaps in part due to comments that Warner may or may not have made about one of the male trainers on her show. She is currently at work on a new show, Thintervention, and has just released a new DVD.
The two weeks prior to shooting, it’s about me doing everything that’s going to be on that DVD. First of all I have to come up with a workout program. Then I make sure that it’s simple enough for people of mid-range to do. Then, I work it into my training sessions, so I get used to the program, because I know I’m going to do it on camera. And, I work myself out, because I know I’m going to be doing those moves myself and they need to seem fluid. So, that’s what happens prior to....
