Free Yoga Classes in Celebration of National Yoga Month

As previously mentioned, September is National Yoga Month (and heads up to the calendar challenged, today is the first of September). That means yoga movies and even more yoga stories in the already yoga-saturated news. But it also means lots of free yoga! A few of the freebies you should check out:

  • Lucy stores around the country (sadly, there's not one in New York) are offering free classes all month
  • Yoga studios in Austin, Dallas, Houston, L.A., and Philadelphia have organized free yoga days throughout the month.
  • And more than 1,000 studios across the country are offering free week passes.

Yoga Titans Kick Off National Yoga Month

Welcome to September, otherwise known as National Yoga Month. There are plenty of events coming up, but this year the Yoga Month people are also debuting a film, Titans of Yoga, which has fewer special effects than Clash of the Titans but is undoubtedly much more watchable. Though probably not as watchable as Clash of the Titans of Yoga, which hasn't been made yet, but which I'm hoping for next September. Stayed tuned for more Yoga Month updates!

Downward Facing September

We've just learned that September has been declared National Yoga Month. This will be the first year, very exciting, which means it's also sort of a trial run. Important to plan ahead, visualize, set an intention. Here, then, are the top ten things we hope will go down during National Yoga Month....

  1. Tree pose and Lotus on mass transit.
  2. Essential oils, always.
  3. Intensive mutual temple rubbing, mid conversation. (Ref. #9).
  4. Yoga pants at cocktail parties, with heels.
  5. Spontaneous "adjustments" of office mates.
  6. Kombucha instead of Apple Juice -- and sticky mats -- at recess.
  7. On the FM dial, Bhagavan Das breaks into hip hop rotation.
  8. Obamas host dawn Mysore classes on White House lawn, next to vegetable garden.
  9. "Please” and “Thank You” replaced by
    “Om” and “Namaste.”
  10. Washington Monument wreathed in patchoulis and lit.
