The Freegan Foragers Guide to Prospect Park
A rare foodie freegan, Zaac Chaves says no to day-old dumpster donuts and yes to all things wild and nutritious. For dinner in his corner of Brooklyn: stinging nettles, mulberries, hazelnuts, and morel mushrooms, all found foraging in Prospect Park. Need evidence that free can be delicious and nutritious? Our friends over at Well + Good NYC got Zaac to divulge his recipe for a rich artichoke stew (his version, made with 100% foraged ingredients).
The Feralicious Challenge may be over, but wild eating goes on. So attention, all you untamed Brooklynites: Zaac leads regular Prospect Park foraging tours/expeditions, and the next one is this Saturday. Details after the jump. (Reminder, Manhattanites: Central Park foraging tours with Wildman Steve Brill go down all summer long).

Losing Motivation
Late last week I lost motivation to exercise, which is unusual especially given that I'm so close to the finish. Thursday I went shopping instead of to the gym and Friday I had a headache then went out to drink with a close friend from out of town. I was planning on being hungover all day Saturday. I wasn't, but I still wanted to lay on the couch watching movies, so I did.&nbs

KILLER but awesome unplugged run
This morning's run was one of the hardest I have endured in a very, very long time. I met up with my new running buddy for what was supposed to be a fairly easy yet hilly five miles of chatting and enjoying the good old outdoors, but what neither of us realized until we started running was that the wind was blowing at 20 MPH!!!!!!!! TWENTY!

Step class was rated R!
Sort of :) Our instructor told us at the start she was going to play some dance music that featured some profanity, but that given we were all adults, she hoped we could handle it. And we did and it was fun and I got really, really sweaty!
Number Game!
This isn't so much of a workout; it's more of an all day activity. Today I had to face the facts that I am behind in my numbers when it comes to push ups and squats. Not desperately behind, it's still very doable, but I have made it my goal today to take periodic push up/squat breaks. I will get those numbers up, even if I have to do it ten at a time!

Another class down, and two inches closer to a pull up...
I skipped my normal run today and went to spin class instead. Yay for being social at the gym! Downside: spin class is at 5:30, which means my gym is swarming with people. Gross. I am the girl who gyms at the buttcrack of dawn just so I can feel like I own the place. It makes the gym so much more relaxing, like a spa. This was not relaxing. But then again, spin is not really supposed to be.
Two more wild meals!
I was over ambitious last week on my meal planning and didn't get everything made. But it made it easier to cook last night since I already had what I needed. I made two meals featuring barley. The first is a barley pilaf, but is like a nice nutty salad. I boiled a cup of barley for about 30 minutes then sauteed a small onion in some oil. I added that to the barley

Squats in the Laundry Room
F. Still finding it very hard to get up and out of bed. Soon the clocks will change, yeah? No morning workout. No motivation this morning. :( Besides, I had loads and loads of laundry to get started on. I did, however, do many many squats in the laundry room during spin-cycles. :)
