Early Promising Word on Bar Method Soho

Soho Mom filed the report to my voicemail just before 8 A.M.: "The place was packed at 6:30 A.M.," she said. "My thighs are shaking." I listened with cheek glued to mattress, bleary eyed from last glass of wine at Y@GL afterparty, but sorted out that she was talking about the recently opened Bar Method® studio in Soho, (which opening was duly noted by SW readers way back in April). My sense was that this was a positive review: "It's that Lotte Berk thing," she said. "The studio is gorgeous. And so is the teacher."

Snapshot

Emily Wishes She Were a Lady GaGa Backup Dancer

Every day, we give you a snapshot of one fellow striver in fitness. We ask personal questions, they boldly answer. Today's snapshot: Emily, aka moveyourbootyblog.

  • What's your secret (fitness-related) sin? Sometimes (as my running partner can attest) I wear the same workout clothes a couple times in a row —what, they're just going to get sweaty again! Am I right?!
  •  What's your number one workout spot? The Brooklyn Bridge and I had a pretty good thing going for a while. But then I moved (it was an amicable split). These days, when I'm not sweating it out in Core Fusion over at the Soho Exhale location or getting my namaste on at Laughing Lotus, I've been really into morning runs on the Williamsburg bridge (but please don't tell the Brooklyn Bridge, I don't want to make it awkward).

Who cares about socks, I'm focused on my thighs

I continued with my Core workouts at Exhale.  Laura remembered my name a week later, which just amazes me and really makes me feel *special*.  Since it was my third class, I kind of knew what to expect and was pretty fired up about getting lots of pushups and situps in.  We did 35 pushups and I lost track of the pulsing situps, but I'm going to say 30.  I still maintain the

Exhale Will Totally Spoil Me For My Regular Gym

The benefits of the Core classes at Exhale are at least fourfold:

1. The instructor Laura remembered me AND my name

2. My legs were shaking from working so hard

3. Razors and mouthwash in the bathroom

4. Complimentary hot tea

But a question, I'm the only one without the fancy socks-- what is the point of the fancy socks?

Oh...Those Muscles

Several months ago I purchased a Groupon for $50 that gets me unlimited classes for 2 weeks at Exhale.  I realized I would never really have 14 days in a row to go, so I just chose today to get started.  It's always kind of nerve racking to go somewhere you've never been (you don't know the instructors, where the locker room is, etc) but everyone was super friendly and helpful.

L.A. Report

Physique 57 Goes to L.A. and Other Left Coast News

Physique 57 which draws its name from its midtown Manhattan headquarters, will be opening in Los Angeles this spring. "Thanks to your efforts to spread the word and the success of our highly acclaimed DVDs, we hear that Physique 57™ is the talk of the town in Los Angeles...." writes P57 HQ to its clients. The only surprising thing here is that the expansion from Manhattan and the Hamptons has taken this long. (Even as Exhale's Core Fusion has been on the march!) No indication yet where in Beverly Hills the new studio will go....

In separate news of the L.A. fiterati, Elizabeth Ordway, Pilates guru and trainer to the stars, has opened her own Beverly Hills studio, Movement Studio LA, and she writes Social Workout "The place is a dream. I am in awe. It's working!"

PRETZEL IS A WORKOUT MOVE??!?!

I've been doing Core for a few months now. It's kicked my ass before for SURE. Plenty. Many times. But never has a move rocked my world more. And by "rocked my world," I mean my legs felt like ROCKS - 100 pound ROCKS.

Core Fusion Streaming in Guest Room

Paddle tennis cancelled due to spitting rain and lack of family momentum. Napping dangerously on overstuffed couch. Realize a streaming class might be only hope. Suggest to sister that she join me. "I'd rather get shot," she says. Father says more or less same. Take my laptop and retreat to guest room where I am staying, with ancient wallpaper and area carpet and lowish ceiling.
