Inspiration Everywhere
OK so I'm great at logging my minutes -- obsessed, even -- but I'm really bad at blogging. So, as it is now Sunday night and I'm finally relaxing, here's a bit of what I've been up to...

Early Morning Run in Central Park
running in Central Park before 8:00 is a divine experience. I the six mile loop and cut over to the reservoir. So about 8 miles at an 8 minute mile. Spinning definately helps me maintain my speed.

Crowd Mentality - Celebrate National Running Day
My friend and I ran with Lululemon today. My competitive nature serves me well because I pushed myself beyond what I would ever do on my own. We ran out & backs, which I never heard of but needless to say, after sitting at work all day, presented a huge challenge to my lazy legs.

Perfect Spring Day
This morning I walked nine miles in Central park. It was amazing: the flowers, the trees, the dogs, and all the active bodies enjoying this great day. Glorious. On my way home I decided to bring a litlle bit of the outdoors into my apartment, so I stopped and picked up a bunch of flowers(mostly lilacs) which I had fun arranging for a little while.

Time Trials at Lululemon
Today's free workout: Lululemon's weekly "Run Club." I'm not a huge fan of running with others. Running is my time to chill out, unplug, blast my Metallica (or Ace of Base, let's be honest here...) and just take a break from society. So, I was a little apprehensive about running in something as social-sounding as a "club." Plus, a running club led by people from an upscale yoga store? But, since I am on a free workout quest and beggers can't be choosers, I decided to check it out. Man, am I glad. Run Club turned out to be the best workout I've had since starting my gymhopping quest three months ago, and it didn't even involve a dubious trial gym pass...

So THIS is Harlem.
Walked through Central Park with boyfriend and the dog for workout today and ended up on the nothern edge of Central Park. There was a beautiful pond and little gingerbread-esque boat house, and all of the park was surrounded by new shiny condos.
"Is this Harlem?" I asked. "Yes," my bf replied. "Huh. Not what I expected."
Afternoon Stretch
Took the Dog to the Rambles!
"I'm in love with CP - now that I've discovered The Rambles - I could hike for hours! The dog and I did soo many hills and I walked so fast for two hours straight! Usually the dog pulls me, today, I pulled the dog!" — michlny, yesterday, 9:45 P.M.

Frogger in Times Square
Today's free workout: Ridiculously hard "Liquid Yoga" class followed by "Ab Attack" taught by a diminutive woman in her 50s with crazy washboard abs, both at David Barton Gym, Astor Place. And to make it a triple-threat, instead of taking the subway there, I tried to burn a few more calories by undertaking a pedestrian-dodging run to the gym from Times Square.
Columbia has this thing called a "major writing requirement." It's like, our law school thesis. I have to present it in class in 5 days. I don't even have a topic yet. I'm already completely f***ed, so I figured one more day of blowing off responsibility wouldn't hurt. Enter, the world's longest workout. Let's start with the run. Running in Times Square is...well, interesting. It's like Frogger meets bumper cars meets human dodgeball. Japanese tourists don't walk in a straight line (also of note, in Japan people pass each other on the left, which makes navigating high speed interactions pretty tricky). Cabs don't stop on red. Tour bus hawkers harass you even when you're going at a full gallop. After tripping over a couple of said tourists and almost getting run over, I developed a few tricks of the trade.
