Keep It In Your Pants
Today's free workout, Bikram Yoga Harlem courtesy of a work-study arrangement (hooray for barter). So, this was my glorious post-rib return to Bikram Yoga Harlem, my absolute favorite yoga studio in New York! It was my first time back at yoga since my vain attempt two weeks ago, after the fall but before I knew the extent of the injury. On that visit, I got through exactly 6 postures before I began taking breaks to nurse my shoulder and rib. After 15 postures or so I just gave up and sat on my mat, staring helplessly at my sad mangled self.
Fast forward to today, and man, I was gonna do it! And I mostly did, until I got an eyeful of balls. Yes, I said it. BALLS.

India Wants To Prevent Future Bikram Choudhurys
The Indian government is sick of people "inventing" new styles of yoga then trying to patent them and make a buck (aka Bikram and his patented 26 moves). Which is why the "Traditional Knowledge Digital Library," a government agency set up by the ministries of health and science, is undertaking an ambitious new project to film hundreds of yoga poses so that next time someone claims to have invented some new form of yoga, the Indian government can whip out the video and say not so fast. "Yoga originated in India. People cannot claim to invent a new yoga when they have not," said the director of the project. "There is no intention to stop people practising yoga, but nobody should misappropriate yoga and start charging franchise money." Cynics may say that the Indian government just wants a piece of said franchise money, but from the looks of things it's purer than that. They just want India to get credit instead of some dude in a do-rag.

Bikram = Better
In the name of all that is holy, I needed that Bikram class today. I was so grateful to myself for going by the time I walked out of there. I am just much more bearable to myself after an intense workout. It's been a hell of a past few days and I can't allow myself to go without exercising regularly.

How People Behave in the Sweaty Equivalent of a Park Ave Co-op
Here's what an old boyfriend used to say when something was very easy: "It's like shooting ducks with a bazooka." This was particularly funny when he said it to my lefty, animal-loving roommates. It was even funnier considering he kept an M-16 in my bedroom (long story). The reason for this tangential anecdote is this: Reebok Sports Club blows every other gym in this city out of the water. Okay, the analogy is a little weak, but I guess if you shoot a duck with a bazooka it probably gets blown out of the water. And like the bazooka and the duck, with Reebok Sports Club, it's just not a fair fight.

30 Day Completed
I finished the 30 day challenge on Friday and took the weekend off to recuperate. I have missed yoga so much since then! I'm very excited to go back in a few hours and restart my practice. I am also a little nervous to see how tight I will be after not going for 4 days. My right hamstring has been healing and stretching and it's not back at 100% like my left, but its getting there.

Low Expectations = Great Class
Out past my bedtime the night before, including consumption of a couple of adult beverages. I drank some water, but not lots. It had been several days since I'd been to class . . . .
I Finished my 30 Bikram challenge in 24 days today.....Even with 5 days off
I'd thought I should share why I have so many yoga minutes:) They are all Bikram (so 90 min a class).

Bad at blogging - oops!
I sort of fell out of blogging, but I have been keeping up with daily yoga. I missed class on Saturday due to an epic hangover and plans for a Bacon and Beer festival, so I had to go to two classes on Sunday. I haven't decided if I'm extending to a 60 day challenge due to my hamstrings, but they are getting better with stretching. I just might continue.

First Bikram Class
Needed a good sweat. Loved it. Intense but not in a competitive way. You vs. you. Good stuff.

Free time for workouts has been hard to come by this week and I know I've been scarce. My theatre company opened a new play, Noah's Arkansas, to terrific reviews this past week and I've had my hands full with front of house duties and curating an exhibit of Arkansas landscape
