The child-soul is an ever-bubbling fountain in the world of humanity.

Johnny Weir Does Pilates and Loves Foot Massages

In case you slept through the Olympics, or, more important, missed the recent New York magazine story, Johnny Weir is a figure skater. He's the flamboyant, "dancerly" American who wears feathers and who did not win the gold medal at Vancouver. Lagging the story just a little, Gawker.TV has today posted several home videos of campy Johnny talking about his Pilates practice, his orgasmic foot massage machine, and about how he's not getting enough action. Were these taken before or after the Games? Hard to say, just as it's hard to say they're 100% authentic. Still, figure skating junkies and South Park script writers should check them out....

On Leaping

Half the failures in life arise from pulling in one's horse as he is leaping.

Catching Up

Oh, man. Back from New York, and while my feat-doing stayed on track, my blogging...did not. So, about to type in about a week and a half of belated workouts--hideously boring for the rest of the community I'm sure, but I want my credit for those workouts, damn it!!

Welcome All

The Challenge is Over, Long Live the Challenge!

Attention wayward workouters! Attention, especially, all veterans of the Feats of Summer, once proud and healthy, perhaps now hanging around the bar, shooting pool and eating pork snaps! Perhaps bitterly wondering if their country has forgotten them. Perhaps taking matters into their own hands. We have not! But, first, the backstory for those just tuning in....

Way Back in June -- on the first day of summer, to be exact -- a group of  two hundred or so friends and strangers set off on the Feats of Summer challenge. It was a colorful, rambling, road trip of a fitness challenge, involving thousands of workouts and hundreds of feats. On Labor Day, upwards of twenty of those challengers crossed our virtual finish line in high style, while many more of us sprinted home achieving less official sorts of victories. Since then, things around here have been quiet on the challenge front. Fact is, we've been busy laying the groundwork for The Next Thing, hunting for tech geniuses to support our expansionist dreams, lobbying congress for money, stalking sponsors, and otherwise failing miserably to get to the gym. Enough!  Today is the first day of fall, the Autumnal Equinox, and it's time for some announcements....

First, mark your calendars: Next Tuesday, September 29th, we will celebrate all those who participated in the Feats of Summer. Challengers, spectators, spouses, children, and small pets are all invited to join us at The Fierce Club in New York City for an evening of detoxing and partial retoxing. Full details after the jump, but the evening will begin with a yoga class at 7:45 P.M., followed by drinks and hors d'oeuvres at 8:45 P.M.

Second, further mark your calendars: Social Workout Media is very proud to announce, in partnership with Whole Foods Market, Equinox Fitness, and Apartment Therapy's TheKitchn.com — among many others — our 2009 Fall Challenge: EAT. SWEAT. BLOG. One month. (That would be October.) 20 Workouts. 10 feats of healthy eating. No tears. We're very excited, and rules, prizes, feat descriptions, and sign up link to follow. For now, let's give the Feats of Summer Challengers one last moment in the fading sun....
