When He's Not Busy Rap Battling, Matt Makes Amazing Breakfasts

The Yoguitarist (photo by Jessica Valle)

We ask your fellow strivers in fitness personal questions, they boldly answer. Today's snapshot: Matt, aka Matty_G_Fresh. Special thanks to photographer Jessica Valle for "The Yoguitarist" photo.

  • What do you wear to the gym? A Speedo™ and a smile. Mmmm...just enjoy that image being burned into your mind for a minute..........that tingle means it's working. Just kidding, usually it's a pair of Starter™ brand moisture wicking workout pants and shirt. They work well and I can buy them at Wal-Mart for cheap, which is good when you're as lower middle class as I am.
  • What's the healthiest thing you eat? I eat pretty healthily in general, but I'd say probably my typical breakfast of 3 organic eggs with baby bella mushrooms and goat cheese all cooked up in coconut oil and sprinkled with a dash of sodium free Greek Spice.
  • What's your number one workout spot? Well, currently it's my apartment because I'm going through the P90X program, but normally I'd say the Margaret Maddox YMCA in East Nashville where I go for all of my hot yoga classes. They renovated recently and really expanded the workout floor (it was really claustrophobic before) so it's becoming a pretty nice Y.
  • What's your secret (fitness-related) sin? Leg workouts or lack thereof. I hate working out my legs and yoga hits them pretty well so I'm lucky if I do any weight-related leg workouts more than once or twice a month.
  • What's the best thing in your gym bag? I generally shower at home when I'm done working out (I'm not real fond of gym showers) unless I have somewhere to be right after, so probably my Axe Body Spray for when I have to make a quick stop by the grocery store or something on my way home and don't want to leave a lot of fainting people in my wake. It used to be the much less douche-tastic (but not by much) Adidas Moves, but I ran out awhile ago and have yet to replace it.
  • What's your go-to workout? It's probably a toss-up between hot yoga and a full upper body workout; bis, tris, chest, back and shoulders. These are usually combined with intervals of some sort; running, arc trainer, recumbent bike, etc.
  • What would you do (fitness-wise) if you had all the time/ability in the world? Hmmm...actually, I'd love to take up ballroom dancing again. Believe it or not, in college I took a ballroom dancing elective one semester (2-1 girl to guy ratio and you changed your partners every week. Giggidy.) and was surprisingly pretty good at it. The teacher even asked me to help out in her class the following year, but I had dropped out of school by then and was living in a different state.
  • What are you just never going to try? Probably the Herbal Body Wrap fad that's come around lately. There's no such thing as a get slim quick remedy, people! If you want to lose weight and get in shape you have to work at it and put in the blood, sweat and tears. As somebody's dad would say, working out builds character. Even if there was a miracle fat loss cure that actually worked, I don't think anyone would appreciate it as much as if they had actually put in the time and effort to get in shape. Psssh, who am I kidding? If they came up with a safe, instant fat loss/muscle sculpting pill I would be the first in line to get one. Well, maybe 2nd or 3rd to make sure that the first couple of people didn't keel over after taking it. :oD
  • What superhero (real life or fictional) most inspires you? Lately it's been the people of Nashville and how they have stepped up in the face of the devastating flood we experienced recently. Neighbors helping neighbors; sacrificing time, energy and money to help clean up after the disaster. It's been pretty amazing watching and participating in the recovery efforts.
