Sandyliz Believes in Running, Whatever Your State of Sobriety

Sandyliz!

Every day, we give you a snapshot of one fellow striver in fitness. We ask personal questions, he or she boldly answers. Today's snapshot: Sandyliz.

  • What's your secret (fitness-related) sin? Sometimes I think I’m the token fitness sinner on SW. I don’t do things the way other people do, or according to anyone's standards but my own. But I also do things like drunk runs, and follow spin class with Red Lobster Cheese Biscuits. Gym wise, I’ve been known to walk out of classes in a hurry if I don’t feel it. I think that's considered rude by most gym-goers. The one "sin" that upsets me is when I don’t follow through, or just kind of fall of the exercise wagon.
  • What's the healthiest thing you eat? When I’m on top of my game, I always eat healthy. I try to get more than half of my week’s groceries from the produce stand. My healthiest recipe is my chicken soup
  • What do you wear to the gym? Fitted tank tops with either short shorts or knee length tights. I used to cover more because I was self conscious, but I decided comfortable and functional is much better.
  • What's the best thing in your gym bag? My iPod. Anything else in there I can do without. Ed. Note: check out Sandyliz's playlist.
  • What's your go-to workout? Walking, for miles. If I can't workout, or I just don't want to do anything specific, I'll walk 2 to 5 miles, then maybe do some yoga at the end for stretching.
  • What would you do (fitness-wise) if you had all the time/ability in the world? Virayoga's Immersion classes, while training at a boxing gym. I've always wanted to have half yoga, half fighting as my standard workout routine. It would be an excellent way to balance out the various aspects of exercise and being active.
  • What are you just never going to try? I HATE the cleanses. It's unhealthy, unrealistic, and at best a short term solution. Not to mention some of them charge you a fortune to starve you. Starvation is not a part of a healthy lifestyle!!
  • What superhero (real life or fictional) most inspires you? It's super cheesy, but my mom really is my hero. She worked so hard, and against so much adversity, to help so many people in my family. Every time I don’t know how I’m going to face something (like, say, surgery), I just think of her and it makes it better. Don’t tell her though—she can be so smug when she’s right.
