Call Me Sparkles and I'll Have to Hurt You...And a Father's Day Gift of Yoga

Have you seen my masculinity? I think I dropped it somewhere around here...

I'm sorry it's been so long since I've written, but my workouts and general health have been of the same old, same old variety lately with the exception of a nasty stomach bug that I picked up this past weekened (I'm halfway suspecting the mat I used for hot yoga on Friday evening) that had me basically sleeping all of Saturday and doing not much of anything but watching my Netflix Instant Queue via Wii on Sunday.  I'll give you a second to re-read that if you want because that's a long-ass sentence.

Besides being sick all last weekend (but hey, I lost like 5 lbs.!), I've been getting back into my regular yoga groove; Mondays and Fridays for hot yoga and Wednesdays for a normal yoga class when it doesn't clash with my softball games.  The YMCA where I take my hot yoga classes has been shut down for close to 3 weeks for renovation and just re-opened at the end of May.  For all of May I think I only took like 2 or 3 yoga classes in total because most of the classes I could have taken in lieu of my Monday/Friday hot  yoga didn't work very well with my schedule.  Needless to say, getting back into doing regular yoga has been a little bit difficult, but my body definitely appreciates it and is regaining what little flexibility it lost.

What my body didn't appreciate was getting covered in silver glitter that was stuck to the mats during Monday's hot yoga class.  Apparently, they had arts and crafts in that studio or something because it.  was.  everywhere.  All over the mats and the floor and there was a big pile of it in the corner.  If arts and crafts ARE what caused this, I'm not sure why they were doing stuff in there when they have a perfectly good child care center and activities tables all over the building.  But I digress.  I got through the class alright even with the extra 15 minutes we did (for a 105 minute hot yoga class!), but I left there feeling like a Stephanie Meyer character; albeit much less effete and moody---probably almost as pale though.

In other news, my dad has been trying to get in shape lately after putting on a bunch of weight.  He managed to lose most of it via dieting (Atkins and then South Beach.  I tried to warn him off of Atkins, but he wouldn't listen.  I'm not gonna lie; I felt a bit smug when he called me a few weeks later and told me he and his wife had switched to South Beach because Atkins wasn't treating their digestions very well) and a little exercise.  He actually weighs less than I do now which made me a little jealous until I remember that I have a LOT more muscle than he does.  Plus, my pants size is still waaaaay smaller. :o)

I've been talking to him about getting into doing yoga as it's something I think he could do that would be hugely beneficial to him.  He sounded somewhat interested, but said he couldn't afford classes or anything like that so for Father's Day I bought him a Gaiam Yoga Kit complete with mat, block, strap and a DVD with 2 different workouts on it.  I shipped it to him Monday so it should be there by today.  I really hope he uses it.  He used to do martial arts back in the day (Judo and Tang Soo Do) so it shouldn't be anything too strange for him.  I guess we'll see...
