And They're Off...

Minute Zero!

It's past midnight, and there are only about 44,600 minutes left in the Million Minute Challenge. Note to insomniacs: Your new personal challenge home page is live! (Must have joined the challenge, and please disregard the fact that it says we're already on Day 2.) Who will be the first to record a minute...?

So we aren't required to complete each "feat" right? (Taking all feats into consideration I'm trying to calculate a delicious goal!)

More details and a "How To" to follow, but the short answer is "No!" In the MMM, you simply keep track of your minutes by activity. You can't "complete" the Yoga feat, for example, you can just log minutes of yoga.... Make sense? Collectively, though, we have one big feat to complete, and that's to hit 1,000,000!

Woohoo! Good luck to all the other MMMers out there -- let's do this!

MM was the first to record Ms for the MMM but wasn't given credit wtf.

i'm hoping this will be clarified...but since this is a challenge about activity minutes (and not workout minutes) shouldn't things like our walk as part of our commutes count? i don't think it should be considered worthy of a "workout" post, but they would be minutes of activity?

I'm with you, msh258.  Definitely planning on counting my minutes of walking to and from work (but not posting as a workout).  I'll definitely try to walk faster than normal, though.

Right now I'm unable to post any minutes . . . just getting the pinwheel of death.

I'm counting the minutes but not logging the commute as a workout, too.

can we clarify this? I want to make sure I'm logging appropriate/acceptable  minutes.....

Same question - I walk daily to work (about 40 minutes) and I still workout....can / should I count my morning walk?

Sometimes, it's certainly a workout (esp. if I'm late!!).

Laughing at this last comment. I have this weird internal clock where I only build in enough time to walk someplace if I keep a really fast pace.

Ruling on the commute question: See here, but in sum: If the walking commute has some intention, or perspiration, or confers some greater peace of mind, then I think you've got a case for counting it. If you're stressed out, and making mad dash to and from subway, or grocery store, etc., then I think it's no good. There's a gray area here, and the point is to count minutes that make you proud. Minutes where you exercised some choice, and chose to do the healthier thing. Make sense?

sweet! i mean, i'm not planning to start and stop my stop watch every time i get up to go to the copier or anthing...but i do take intentional walks during the day to get out of the office. since the purpose is primarily to move my body (with side benefits such as clearing my mind), i'm definitely counting those!

The ruling works for me.  I will keep the gray area in mind.  ;)

anyone want to tell me where i can log my minutes on the elliptical machine?  or should i just switch to running/walking this month?

princessmichelle's picture

@princess: i'd say under "Swimming, Cycling & Spinning" since the sub-header says "cardio junkies unite"...?

Thanks Oliver for the clarification!  Totally makes sense!  I walk b/c it's better for me than the bus/subway - both physically and mentally.  People think I'm crazy b/c rain, sleet or snow, I walk!!  So - I am so counting it!!!

There has to be some way to get to the personal challenge page other than clicking the link in this post...
