Help me, yogis!

Ok.  I need some feedback.  Should I take what feels like a natural break from Bikram, or keep at it?

I go through phases of serious Bikram addiction.  Sometimes I'll go five or six days a week, and definitely feel better for it.  But I've been craving other exercise lately--serious strength and running running running.  When I think about going to yoga, I get panicky.  It takes so long!  I could go for a run instead!  Lately I've been going three times a week, and the last couple of weeks just twice, though I've exercised every day for the last month.

Part of my angst is money-driven.  I've already paid for the next four months of yoga.  Should I be getting my money's worth?  Or consider it cash under the bridge, and do what feels right, as long as I'm moving?

I just know I'm going to step out the door from work tonight, intending to go to yoga, feel the sun on my face, and desperately want to go home, change, and run four miles instead.

What do you think?

Go for a run!  If you force yourself to go to yoga just to get your money's worth, then you'll just start to hate it.  And maybe this is your body's way of telling you to mix it up, which is always good too.

I used to do a lot of Bikram about ten years ago and I definitely hit a wall after a while.  It had something to do with the fact that it is always the same poses in the same sequence with the same cadence of instruction.  I was in the same boat that you are when I hit that wall, but worse: I had just paid for a year in advance at the local Bikram studio.

I called it water under the bridge because I didn't have a choice-- I had been doing it for so long, and then one day couldn't stand the thought of it, and I couldn't bring myself to go back for about two months.  Right when I was considering going back, someone turned me on to Anusara yoga, and after that it was all over.  Now, I wouldn't do anything but an Anusara class-- every class is different, it's got a solid spiritual side to it, the alignment principles basically eliminate any risk of injury, and the teachers are incredibly well-trained.

As for today, though, I say go for a run.  ;)
