Shayne Worships at Jillian Michaels' Tiny Muscular Feet

- Shayne!
Every day, we give you a snapshot of one fellow striver in fitness. We ask personal questions, he or she boldly answers. Today's snapshot: Shayne, aka shaynet.
- What's your number one workout spot? When it's nice out, outside! My favorite thing to do is explore a city by running it. I don't think I'll ever give up my gym membership though, because I also really appreciate a good treadmill run, and I'm into gym culture. I'm moving back to New York in May and need an awesome gym, so send your suggestions my way!
- What's the healthiest thing you eat? I'm vegan, but that definitely doesn't mean everything I eat is healthy. I do start every day off with a huge bowl of oats with almond butter, though, and lately my snacks have been mostly raw nuts and prunes. (I swear I'm not 70.)
- What's your secret (fitness-related) sin? I neglect my abs. The sit ups for the Feralicious Challenge are the first I've done in I don't know how long.
- What do you wear to the gym? Running shorts and a cheap tank top. I never pay full price for gym clothes -- Target clearance rack and TJ Maxx are the way to go.
- What's the best thing in your gym bag? After years of battling with headphones, I have finally discovered these Nike headband headphones. No more messing with around-the-ear garbage, and they stand up to sweat. Plus they look totally 90s. Now I just need to swap my iPod for a Discman.
- What's your go-to workout? Definitely running, since I feel like it's the most efficient way to work out my whole body, but I also like to counter my running addiction with plenty of yoga.
- What would you do (fitness wise) if you had all the time/ability in the world? I would run a race every weekend. I love the excitement of the crowd.
- What (class/activity/food/trend/miracle-cure) are you just never going to try? I was going to say pole dancing, but I would probably actually try that just to laugh at my uncoordinated self. But I will never do an all liquid cleanse. I like food too much.
- What superhero (real life or fictional) most inspires you? In the realm of health and fitness, Jillian Michaels, hands down. If you haven't listened to her old podcasts, check them out. The woman is a wealth of nutrition-related knowledge, and I worship at her tiny muscular feet.

I just don't see the point! I feel like my abs get worked sufficiently with everything else I do!

You should check out the health & racquet club. It's not as "macho" as other gyms and I've met a lot of great people there. I don't use the equipment a lot, but the classes are awesome.

I struggle with headphones too. Although my Sony MDR-W08 headphones are currently sufficient, I appreciate suggestions for alternatives. Thanks for the tip!

Don't know how it works w/ your current gym, but I think location trumps just about everything, as long as being inside the gym is not such a turn-off you don't want to step inside.

@Bdawg Thanks for the rec! My current gym is lacking in the class area, so that would be a nice change!

Equinox has the greatest classes and instructors - IMHO!
