Emily Wishes She Were a Lady GaGa Backup Dancer

Emily!

Every day, we give you a snapshot of one fellow striver in fitness. We ask personal questions, they boldly answer. Today's snapshot: Emily, aka moveyourbootyblog.

  • What's your secret (fitness-related) sin? Sometimes (as my running partner can attest) I wear the same workout clothes a couple times in a row —what, they're just going to get sweaty again! Am I right?!
  •  What's your number one workout spot? The Brooklyn Bridge and I had a pretty good thing going for a while. But then I moved (it was an amicable split). These days, when I'm not sweating it out in Core Fusion over at the Soho Exhale location or getting my namaste on at Laughing Lotus, I've been really into morning runs on the Williamsburg bridge (but please don't tell the Brooklyn Bridge, I don't want to make it awkward).
  • What's the healthiest thing you eat? Green juice. I'm also really glad this question isn't - "What's the UN-healthiest thing you eat?"
  • What do you wear to the gym? It's either Lululemon running Spirit Tights (love!) or $15 XXL Champion sweats from Modells. Clearly, it depends on how bloated I'm feeling that day.
  • What's the best thing in your gym bag? I call it the "Up & Away" sports bra (also by LuLu) because literally, you strap it on and poof! Those ladies are up & away! But I think it's actually called the "Lift & Separate" which I guess, also makes sense.
  • What's your go-to workout? Running. Easy. Clothes on, shoes tied, tunes cranked, and you're out the door. No memberships, joining fees, sold-out classes or awkward interactions with sweaty/smelly/skeevy guy next to you.
  • What would you do (fitness wise) if you had all the time/ability in the world? Take hip hop dance classes everyday and go on tour with Lady Gaga as a backup dancer. Or open an outdoor yoga studio with live music. Or train for an Iron Man. Or just really hone my dodgeball skills. Yeah, probably just dodgeball.
  • What are you just never going to try? Not so into that caveman/all meat/barefoot running/hunter thing.
  • What superhero (real life or fictional) most inspires you? As a kid it was Michelle Akers and Mia Hamm. They were kickass women who weren't afraid to be total power houses.

Comments

You are right.  I sometimes recycle the same workout clothes all week.  But then, I'm usually just lifting weights.

Totally with you on recycling those sweaty clothes once or twice... and who DOESN'T want to be a backup dancer for Gaga?! Forget about dodgeball and go for your dreams!

Also totally on your page about the workout clothes. In ordinary rotation for me are one pair of running tights, two pairs of shorts, and two tee shirts. I wash them when they smell but not before. (This weekend I'm running a 15K and I get another tech tee shirt out of it! It might be the real reason I'm running it...).

And don't be so sure about the skeevy guys: I once had a dude make lewd comments about my butt mid-run. Though the chances for that are slimmer than at the gym, of course. :)
