Featured Body

you better realize you're hot...like...now.

my mom at 28...just 2 years older than me now. total hottie.

In which this week's "Featured Body," msh258, gets a dose of wisdom from her hottie of a mother.

Sundays are usually my days to catch up on the 'real life' activities that I inevitably neglected throughout the week. So, yesterday I did all the laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc. that needed to be done and then I popped by my mom's place for coffee and a chat. I love those! Anyways, at some point she showed me some pictures that my older brother came across recently of her in her late 20's, just a couple years older than me now. She was a total hottie!!! When I said so, she just responded with a 'yea! I just wish I knew that then!'

That statement made me think...I've had my share of body issues, and I finally feel like I'm working past them, but it made me realize more than ever that I don't want to be critical of myself and my body, especially only to realize in a few decades that I totally had it going on! I just think that we all tend to be overly critical of our appearance without honoring our body for all the amazing things it can do! It's not like I recently took a look at the scale thinking: damn! Thank you to every ounce of me for allowing me to kick major ass in the gym! Well anyways...just something I was thinking about.

I agree, great post.  I wish I had been comfortable in my own skin when I was a young adult.  I am convinced it was all the "dieting" that made me gain weight as the years went by.  I wish I had just let go and had fun and then I would have been fine and maybe a bit saner.

I agree, my mom was smoking and I don't think she ever knew it. My grandmother too was smoking at age 84. Hot damn!

i just find it amazing (and totally ridiculous and sad) how "ideals" of the times affect body image. my mom grew up in a culture that valued curvy women and she was always "a stick figure" as she put it. today, and in this society, that "stick figure" is what's valued...it's just nuts how so many people, and especially women, are suffering from self-esteem issues simply because of a temporary trend. sigh.

I'm glad some of us are actually making progress towards their body issues.  I hope to be in the same boat, but I have a lot more work to do.  Congrads, MSH, on working your way towards a point I can't even see yet . . .
